Car locked me out with keys inside

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!

Your 2023 Maverick should have a keypad (not sure about an XL) I mentioned before to reprogram the code to your old zip code, so you won't for get it.

I have a cover on my bed and the gate locks too. How are you going to get to this kit? I had a spare key made that is hidden outside of the vehicle in a very protective magnetic case. In a Farady bag. I have a spare battery in the case too just in case the fob battery goes dead. The key case is hidden well, you cannot see it, but admittedly if someone has the time and desire to find a hidden key, nothing is fool proof, but if they are that determined they probably would have found another way to gain entry.

I installed a hidden door key for my 1990 Ranger 30 years ago, after my wife locked herself out with the keys inside with my son in a car seat. I used heavy-duty Velcro on the key. It is still in the same place today.

Point is with very few places that steel is exposed under the Maverick. Velcro might be a better solution. Also Velcro will not move if you hit a bump.

So this thread was resurrected today and I re-read it from the beginning while watching a hockey game (so I might have skimmed a few of the posts). I have a 24 Lariat with no keypad. As someone who has only locked himself out of a vehicle 2 times in the past, I have not been able to do it in my Maveric and I haven't really given it much thought. I have purposely tried to lock my fob inside a few times, but the truck has not let me do it using the door handle (keyless entry). If I were to happen to lock my fob and cell phone in the truck, I would try the app on my watch, but I see the app as a novelty and not a reliable tool. If my truck comes out of storage, I think I might reward myself with a keypad (I need to use up my reward points).

Vancouver and Washington? If so, I watched that game also on NHL center ice. I live in Michigan but I was rooting for the capitals. No I'm not a red wings fan. I'm an LA kings game since 1981....

Good thing there is no down vote, because being an LA fan and cheering for Washington over Vancouver is certainly deserving of one!

I haven't had that happen and have the keypass thing in case. BUT just one thought is with the fordpass app, even if your phone was locked in, was there someone else's phone you could borrow and download it on there and open it?

About 3 months after buying my Tesla Model 3, I was parked and went for a run. I hadn't charged my phone the night before and about 30 minutes in my headphones quit playing music as my phone had died. Didn't think anything of it till I get back to my car and realize... crap, that's my key.

I ended up talking with a person parked next to me, borrowed their phone, downloaded the app, got it unlocked, deleted the app off their phone and got my own charging in the car to get home.

Might have been an option with the Fordpass app there to get in if others were around. Just reset your password when you get home.

I guess in this case too IF you have a significant other or person with the app and access for your truck, you could borrow a phone and call them and they could unlock for you.

Use the Ford Pass app to unlock it.

Walk around to the passenger side, open the door and unlock it with the little unlock “button”

I hadn't read any of the threads about having the fob locked in the car and yesterday it almost happened to me with my 2025 XLT with no keypad. I almost always keep the fob in my pocket, but yesterday I set it in the console before my 80 mile drive home. I stopped for gas and after filling up and trying to get back into the car I discovered the door was locked, phone was also inside. I briefly panicked, but went to the passenger door to find it unlocked. Crisis averted.

maybe if you did read them you'd see how people are doing this accidentally with the driver's door.

This has happened to me numerous times with my 2024. A couple times at home with a window open. It happened tonight. I got out with the windows up, took something out of the backseat and stood there for a few minutes. When I went to get back in all the doors were locked. Seeing posts from before I took delivery caused me to have the keypad installed.
