That's pretty ingenious. I would have added a cross brace to tringulate the uprights though, and maybe a brace going from the top to the front D ring to prevent it from tipping forward or backwards ...

Put in this simple canoe rack... 2×6 secured with 9" turnbucles, some 2×4s for pillars and cross bar... no drilling at all. I used a suction cup crossbar with strap though the rear doors cabin area... Canoe was as well secured as I ever had it !! Some would be concerned the strap comprises weather stripping on the door... I'm not worried, seemed minimal.... the rack can be installed or Uninstaller in 15 minutes...

Well, the turnbuckle cinched up with adequate but not too much pressure really kept it well secured, it stayed firmly seated... I did cut the 2×6 rear edges at 45° to really well seat well, which i think certainly helped.... I drove about 3 hours w canoe on, it never budged!! Also, crossbar over the cab is padded , and that too is a help, keeps the tunnels from slipping and sliding

I had seen something like it months ago but didn't know how it was attached, and I didn't want to drill holes (yet😃)... so this seemed plausible... and it can be removed pretty quick... thanks !

I like it and was about to do something like that till I got my tonneau. Then I got this from Amazon that was cheap, fits in my receiver and takes a minute to install.

Now that's slick.👍
I like that it will work with a tonneau cover.
The price isn't bad either $50-$100.

That must be the Malone crossbar with the suction cups.
They also make the T bar that goes into the hitch.
Like the one that Timothyd has.
You can buy Malone through Cabelas

I forget where i bought them, I used them on my Focus for a few years...
The T-bar is perfect however I plan on towing a boat with canoe on top, or at times have the tailgate down w the canoe on top....
