1 Hour Canoe Rack

Made from an 8 ft 2X6 and a 12 ft 2X4. I purposefully kept the base pretty narrow so I could get it in and out using the slots in the bed. 2X4 verticals are about 37” to match the roof with foam blocks (no rack).

Nice. Good simple solution. Just tell me you have something on your roof other than a pool noodle. You need a crossbar up there or your roof will be trashed when you catch that headwind that one day. Also I would use a ratchet strap or 2 to secure it to the front and rear of the bed, at the top of the frame to reduce wobble. It could even be a piece of paracord or whatever one way and a ratchet strap the other way, as long as the connect to the top of the frame separately. Other wise have fun down on the ole river!

I’ve got three 1/2” ratchet straps on there. Two over the top to compress the boat down and one diagonal to the thwarts to keep it from flying forwards if I hit the brakes. No highway driving today so I didn’t bother with anything to keep it from sliding back.

That's a great idea! I have to build something like that to haul a 40' aluminum extension ladder. That would stabilize the thing (20' long when collapsed), or help to. I was going to stick a bike rack in the hitch and under-hood front cargo straps (I sure envy the ones built in on the Bronco). Wish me luck!

I rejigged it this summer to tilt the verticals inwards so it's a bit stabler.

Sounds good! Some people want ratchet down like it's the Titanic up there! That looks like a good system!
