35,700 miles and I got the vibrations from stop to heavy acceleration, and again from 50-60mph, and a quick search through the forums suggested the axle was bad. The dealership was well aware of the situation having done numerous Maverick axles. It took three total days including ordering the parts and installing them. I asked for proof that they actually replaced the axles and didn't just replace the CV boots, and what I got were some pictures sent to my phone, but with no date details or EXIF data (underlying metadata) to prove when the pictures were taken. I have shared those as attached files.

I have driven the car about a hundred miles since the repair and none of the vibration issues remain. I assume they did in fact replace the axles, but I haven't pulled off the belly pan to physically inspect the parts.

My paperwork included the following items, one of which shows a charge listed but for which I didn't pay
A. 99P - gas multi-point inspection $0.00
B. AC001 "front end is shaking left to right, vibration".
Op.1 AC001 - Miscellaneous Air Conditioning Repair $190.00
C. 1007D, 4462A, 10; 07DXQ - Axle Shaft Remove and Replace $0.00
Op.1 1007D - rotational noise, vibration, harshness, diagnosis (there is a long list of small items such as bolts and nuts and the shafts included under this item)
Op2 4462A - halfshaft or axle shaft assembly front
Op3 21007DXQ - rotational noise

One thing to note, is that upon intake, the service advisor told me that they charge an inspection fee of $190, which will not be charged if in fact the item that needs replacement or repair is in fact covered under warranty. I wonder whether that is what underlies item B above, and if so, does that mean they charged Ford for their routine inspection fee of $190 under the guise of AC repair? If so I would think that is fraud.

I didn't end up paying anything, and they provided me a Bronco Sport Big Bend as a loaner, for which they did an authorization of $200 and rental of $50 a day all of which was waived because the actual repair was covered under warranty.

I have now almost exceeded the 36,000 mile mark and am outside the scope of the warranty, but I understand that the above warranty repair would have cost between $2,200 and $2,700 for parts and labor at the dealership and feel lucky that the problem didn't manifest later on. I find myself wondering whether to purchase an extended warranty at this stage, or start a separate emergency fund of, say, a few thousand for repairs and self-insure for anything not covered under regular car insurance.

Attached are the pictures provided to me by the dealership, which were allegedly taken between the 25th and the 27th of the month.

Do these look like Maverick axles? Could the dealership have replaced the CV boots and re-packed them with grease to perform the repair?

they did more than replace the boots if you no longer have the vibrations etc would be my thought. I see no need to be suspicious/paranoid

I doubt the dealership would charge Ford for replacing an axle but instead replace only a boot. Ford routinely calls back the old parts for warranty verification. If a dealership is caught blatantly cheating they will get hit hard by Ford.

At the minimum Ford will not pay the repair they did on your Maverick and it could lead to the dealership being placed under a continual audit which means Ford will look at all warranty claims with a microscope and even the smallest mistake like a single one time use hardware not being billed on the RO causes a rejection of the whole job.

Not sure what the $190 is about. I would ask your dealer.

This statement: "I have driven the car about a hundred miles since the repair and none of the vibration issues remain. " Proves they didn't just replace the CV boots.

Maybe I'm just paranoid. The likelyhood is that you're right and they did the service. Does the axle seen in the pics look like a Maverick axle to you?

My 2023 XLT EcoBoost came with a 5yr/60,000 powertrain warranty.
I bought the car technically used, with 46 miles on it. I was not able to redeem the 5,000 Ford points you would get if you bought the car new. Not sure the length of the warranty, assumed it was 36k

I'm inclined to believe you. I tried re-creating every situation in which I found vibrations before, and couldn't do so

Very good to know. Without naming the dealership, I did some homework on it a couple years ago this month and found them to be reputable including for warranty repairs. Interesting to note that they will call back the old part for verification and that they can be placed under audit. This makes total sense but as a used car guy my entire life, the only experience I have with calling back parts is taking my cores back to the junkyard to redeem my core charge. Silly analogy but this is my first new car after having owned 7 used Mercedes' my entire life and doing most the repair work myself

No idea, I've never seen one, but at least the issue was resolved.

I didn't realize replacing both axles would cost so much ($2200-$2700).
I've got just over a year left on my drive train warranty and have considered purchasing an extended power train warranty before mine expires.
The only reason why I'm hesitating is I only put around 3800 miles a year on my Maverick (15,000 miles in almost 4 years).

Ford will call back some parts to examine them for why they failed. They will also call back things like one time use nuts and bolts to see if they were actually replaced and not just billed out on the RO.

At the dealership I retired from they once called back every single thing that was billed out on the warranty RO. Including the coolant. That stuff isn't save it's recycled so that request was not fulfilled.
