I don’t think I was clear enough with my original post. To keep it as simple as possible, I left the fob in the truck and left the truck unlocked. I had no intention of locking it because I was going to use it later in the day, but I didn’t. The next day I went to open the truck and saw the fob in there, but the doors were locked. I thought I recall that if one tried to lock the truck with the fob still inside the truck, there would be an audible alarm. This did not occur. I guess my question is simply should one hear an alarm if one tries to lock the truck with the fob inside the cab. This has nothing to do with accidentally hitting the lock on the inside door handle or touching the raised area on the outside handle.
Hear an alarm if one tries to lock the truck with the fob inside the cab?
It depends.

Did you push the lock lever right above the handle when you opened the door and then closed it?
No alarm, it's locked.

Did you push the lock all button in front of the handle after the door was opened?
Yes a honk, and all doors unlocked, can't lock that way.

Now you see why there are questions coming back at you - depending on what you attempted, it does matter if you want to know why it happened or to avoid it.

Plus there is some confusion if the 25MY will indeed auto-lock after a time-out period to protect the truck from being stolen.
But very few responses to a request for a test.
But only a valid test - can't manually lock it accidentally as SO MANY have done on pre-25MY's.

I find that, unless I deliberately pull that small lever, it still locks on me. I'm thinking there's friction between it and the main lever that drags it into the lock position. No: not gonna tear the door card off to fix it!

So you don't hear it lock after you close the door?
As if remote button was pushed?
Silence?
Not golden in this case.

Not a sound--other than me growling if it's locked again!

Your premise is possible and easily observable, since all you have to do is unlock the door and pull the main lever to watch what happens. Door open or closed - it should not matter.

Bob,
Okay understand that.
I'm guessing that your truck is in the garage because you left the doors unlocked with the keys in it?
If that is the case. Roll a window down. Leave your keys in the same place you previously did inside the truck. Making sure the doors are unlocked. See what happens in the morning.
I always leave my keys in my house. That way, if someone wants to steal my car, they need to come into the house. I can legally shoot someone in my house, but not in the garage.

This video is exactly what Jeff says he's doing. Which shows how he's locking the door when he pushes it open. Maybe, if he watches the video, he'll realize what's happening.
Pretty sure he’s got your account blocked. That’s why he thanked Carlitos, saying he didn’t understand what Carlitos’ post originally was saying…. Because he left it simplified and pointed to post #4 that spelled it all out. But he couldn’t see post #4. Likewise, he’s not gonna see this video. 🤣

Experienced an odd problem a couple of days ago. I mistakenly left my key fob in the truck with the doors unlocked. The next morning was looking for the fob. I remembered where I put it and went out to the truck but found it locked. I’m not sure how this could’ve happened. If I had left the fob in the truck and locked it, I should have gotten an immediate audible alert. What gives?

I used my wife’s fob which she keeps in the house, went to the truck and was able to open the door. Is this just a one time blip or something that I should be concerned with? Of course, if I keep the fob in my pocket and do not leave it in the truck, I’ve solved that problem, but I would really like to get to the bottom of this.
I have the opposite problem. My Maverick won’t lock the doors when I walk away from the vehicle, like all of my other cars do. I’m so used to modern cars with walk-away door locks, that I forget to manually lock my Maverick, inadvertently leaving it unlocked in public spaces. It’s just a matter of time before I lose my radar detector and any other loose items kept in the vehicle.

That makes sense. Too bad for him.🤷‍♂️
When you don't agree with the Message or the Messenger, ignore is one option.
I've disagreed with many on here. At times quite vehemently. Agree or disagree. I have never blocked / ignored anyone because there's still a lot of valuable knowledge that they impart on the forum. As long as they don't have an agenda. 🤷‍♂️

You have an assembly problem then since it appears the door open handle returning to it's resting position is dragging the lock lever closed with it.

That's a whole lot of friction to allow that to occur, probably can only happen when the shared pivot pin is bent or such.

You can probably get around it by pulling the open handle AND push the door open with your knee.
Just let go of the door open handle. Just let it snap back.

Shhhhhh Glen.

I received a lot of comments and advice about my auto lock problem. I’ve been out of the country for the last couple weeks so I could not do any of the tests that were suggested. I have now had a chance to do some testing and these are the results.

With the fob in the truck, I locked the doors using the inside door lock and exited. As soon as I closed the door, the truck chirped.

With the fob in the truck, I exited the truck and locked the doors using the outside handle door lock. The truck chirped.

With the fob in the truck, I left the doors unlocked overnight. The following morning I went to the truck and the doors were still unlocked. You will recall that the problem I had was that I had left the doors unlocked with the fob in the truck and the next morning the doors were locked.

I have concluded that the problem I had was just an aberration or one-time occurrence. Anytime the fob was left in the truck and I locked the doors, it chirped. The take away for me is to make sure I don’t ever leave the fob in the truck. While rare, it is apparently possible for the truck to self lock with the fob inside. Thanks for all your comments.

Now on the pre-25MY - the chirp was given at the same time as a very audible all door unlock occurred.
Meaning there was no actual locking of the doors with fob inside. (or key in ignition)
If you used the inside lock-all button, or outside keyless entry lock doors touch area. As you described.

But the lock-lever above the open door handle is a different matter - all MY's still do the same.
That's a lock with no chirp, for that door only. If the others are locked, they stay locked, if unlocked, they stay unlocked.

So you didn't actually say if it was locked, or unlocked - only that it chirped.

Curious when you tested the fob overnight, to match what happened last time.
Did you have 2 fobs in cab, left one, took the other?
But the surprise locking was only the 1 fob, left in cab?

Good post…but I believe your last sentence may be the only thing wrong. I don’t believe the truck will EVER “self lock”. That’s what these several hundred posts are about.. people accidentally hitting the lock lever and claiming “self lock”. But it’s just not true. Human error in all cases…so far.

And the difference in settings can make a slight difference in results.

Were all doors unlocked when you got in, or only drivers door?
Were all doors unlocked when driver got out, or only drivers door?
Did you drive over 5 mph to lock all the doors, or slow to mailbox so it never happened?
The slight difference in results makes people think their situation was different.

Now I can't even recall what the default settings are for all door unlock - the single-press fob unlock, or double-press required?
Unlock all on on driver door open, or not?
And did 25MY change some of those defaults?
Shoot, first recall software update reset some of my option settings. I think tail light issue.
I know I went thru and put some back the way I wanted. Over a year ago - I don't remember.
