ACC is only about speed - the steering is a different feature (Lane-Centering) that's not part of ACC itself, though on the Maverick I think they come in the same bundles.

Lane departure warnings is a separate feature still, which my XLT has.
as 710 mentioned, in the Maverick, you cannot use ACC without the button for lane assist / lane keeping also engaged.

radar-based ACC debuted for Ford in 2006. that was a long, long time ago. I am not sure when lane centering was added, but I am sure that one model - the Ford Bronco - still does not have it. I own a Bronco with adaptive cruise that does not do lane centering which means it doesn't really self-steer, it just kinda nudges you back to center if you wander over a lane slowly enough.

OK well this is a Maverick forum and for the Maverick they have to be used together. ACC uses lane keep assist in the Maverick.
Apparently we both just love to argue, eh? I was responding to someone who said ACC keeps you in the lane. It doesn't. That's a separate feature. It's STILL a separate feature whether or not Ford requires both to be enabled at the same time. I apologize for being pedantic, but words mean things.

*in a Maverick* ACC most definitely does keep you in the lane. in the center of it, in fact.

you're a pedant who's also wrong, that's a fine distinction. :)

You responded to my comment and I did not say that so I guess you were confused.

Actually, I was replying to colinl when this subthread started. My ORIGINAL post about ACC not being the same as lane-centering was in reponse to his/her post - all the corrections after that I responded to stem from my orginal correction.

But I'm done with this - y'all can twist things to mean things they don't mean if you want, I'll stop feeding the trolls.

No I think you just can't twist things to mean something they aren't...

ACC does not function without lane keep assist in the Maverick. It's as simple as that.

One last, honest question - can you turn on lane centering but keep ACC disabled? Or is it truly you have both enabled or neither enabled?

This is a good question and while I LOVE to argue, I'm not a troll. If I annoyed you it probably won't be the last time, sorry/notsorry in advance.

Officially, no. In a Maverick with ACC when cruise control is off, ostensibly, lane assist functions the same as a Maverick that lacks ACC. that's what the manual says. however...

my personal experience is that it does act differently. my Maverick will absolutely steer a bit before I've even left a lane. I think it behaves differently than a Maverick without ACC that only has copilot 360 lane keeping/lane assist.

granted, I've only driven Mavericks without ACC a total of maybe 60 miles, and I've driven 2 Lariats with ACC for over 60,000 miles so I could be wrong.

LCA - Lane Centering Assist keeps you in the center. I really like it, more so when driving with a cross wind.

LKA - Lane Keeping Assist plays Pong between the lines, I I turned it to just vibrate on my previous Fusion.

ACC reduces your speed when coming up on a slower vehicle. This was my must have feature. For decades I found standard cruise control useless. I'd set it for the speed I wanted to go and come up on someone driving slower. Glance in the mirror to see if' it's clear to pass and see a line of cars....disengage. Finally pass and re-enage only to repeat a few miutes later. Pretty soon I'm adjusting my speed up to go with the flow instead of a few above the speed limit and then I have to also watch for speed traps. With ACC I no longer have to adjust. Pass when it's clear and I'm back to the speed I wanted to be.

ACC and Hybrid have both reduced the amount of lead in my foot and made long drives to see family more enjoyable.

I know I started the pedantry (and kept it up), but when Ford's own site says ACC and Lane Centering are two separate features, I'm not going to budge on being right. The fact that they are enabled/disabled as a set explains why you lump them together, though. Perhaps troll was a harsh word, but one other person in the conversation seemed to be trying to earn it.

I'm in the opposite situation - I've used the lane departure system, but never the Lane Centering. As for how it works when Lane Centering disabled...I know I've set my Lane Departure Warning to "Alert," which gives a vibration when it triggers - it feels almost like hitting the rumble strip at the side of a freeway, but only on the steering wheel. There's also an "Aid" (or "both") option for it to try to nudge you a little, but it's not supposed to be as strong or as effective as the lane centering feature - perhaps that's what you're feeling?
