I think it's the other way around. They put their customers in a very shifty position. And somehow ot is the DIY customers fault. EXACTLY how I was treated at first by the dealer until I told them, don't go there! Drive it more trickle charge.....nope. Fix it!I can understand the difficult situation they basically put themselves in.
User replaceable item - so you can NOT trust a DIY to enter the correct battery stats, or that a battery of correct stats is used.
Must attempt some testing logic, and hope sensors are correct to give good values to use.
Battery in cabin with people - can NOT over charge so as to cause gassing and water loss.
Cannot trust that vent tubes are installed correctly.
With values obtained from sensors & math - have a charging strategy that will not overcharge.
I get it.
I've seen the reviews of the non-pile load battery testers, where they read some low draws and math out what state of health it thinks the battery is in, and even state of charge from voltage.
And my goodness they don't seem to agree.
And even there - you have to provide what the CCA or CA or RC or Ah the battery is claimed to be.
And they still don't agree on the Voltage, to the level their SOC agrees, or other measurements to agree on SOH. So again down to sensor, or formula's used, or whatever.
So battery not in the cabin perhaps a good start.
And attempt a learning process - but if you put in the wrong size/spec of battery as called for, forget having a fully charged battery perhaps depending on which way you go.
Or require a visit to tech with programmer after battery change.
Or require entering the specs.
And if you fail to do those correctly - again forget having a fully charged battery.
For liability while it's in the cabin - I get the potential.
But allow doing one of those, and go for full charge.
Don't just do something......stand there! This is my second Ford in my lifetime and the last. Awesome little truck but not backed by a good quality builder. Proven everyday by all the constant recalls. Lesson learned, my bad.
