Not trying to start anything but I’ve heard of this for years and a few times here. What actually is it supposed to do except maybe clean plug electrodes a tiny bit if any. Can’t really see what it helps with other than maybe blows the engine or gives you a speeding ticket.👮🏼

On my old carbureated motorcycles (six carbs each, 12 between the two), I find Italian tune-ups worthwhile (and mighty fun). I'm also a big fan of pure no corn gas in those dinosaurs.

Not so sure an Italian tune-up has the same "blow out the cobwebs" effect on my EcoBoost Maverick, but I still enjoy doing one every so often. ;)

The idea is that a vehicle needs to be ran hard every now and then for a number of reasons.
I guess I run mine hard every once in a while passing Rigs ( on a passing lane) on my way home from town. And to see if the Turbo is still working. 😉 Scares me when I completely ‘floor’ it tho.

Passing is the opportune time to floor it! It's good for ICE to run it hard on occasion.

When GPF’s get introduced, an occasional “Italian Tuneup” will be recommended by Ford to burn off the soot that will accumulate in the GPF.

Whether it benefits is up for debate,
🤫 It's one of excuses I use, and I'm sticking to it! ;)

Besides, It's the only way to be sure I'm getting the full 18PSI boost readout on my OBD scanner.

Where I grew up 50 years ago , in the middle of the country , it was called a "Polish Tuneup " ......just sayin'.......😑
How many did it take to get it done? 😮

Back In the day if you didn’t put the heat to the pistons now and then you’d build up carbon deposits on top of the pistons and around the valve seats.
One of the reasons I only get an average of 27 mpg’s is I regularly get on it.
Say several hard powerful spool ups. I get some high RPM’s in there by putting it in low and exploring the upper third of the tachometer.
Think sport mode while actually hauling ass.
Putting it in low keeps me from having to go 95-110 mph.
My engine loves 4,000 to 5,000 rpm.
I like to let it breathe now and then.

Yes, I agree, but nobody gives me a reason or an actuality on what it does. 🤔 Like ‘Nike, Just do it’! Well…..

The theory is higher cylinder pressures help burn off carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. Plus it gets the turbo spinnin' like wwwweeeeeeeeeeee!

GPF = Gas Particulate Filter....yet another smog device. Diesels have had a similar device for a number of years.
