Is there a list of socket/wrench sizes around for the Mavericks?

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone has come up with a close to definitive list of socket sizes used on Maverick.

I wanted to make up a bare minimum toolkit and I know what else I want or don't want. I can find roads a towtruck will refuse service to with 20 miles of home and there are a handful of cellular dead spots also, so the Ford assistance and CAA won't do me much good if I find myself out there.

If there's no actual info, I'm gonna guess at 6mm 8mm 10mm 13mm 15mm 18mm 21mm .... and maybe a 17... 17s usually lurk on drain plugs and belt accessories so those are easyish to check for.

Get a good 13/16" socket and at least a 24" long breaker bar, those lugnuts at 150# of torque need some grunt,,,,,

Torx head screws - don’t know sizes off top of my head. I use a Torx multi-tool when required. Pry Tool for removing plastic clips is handy.

Old Dude Advice:
I would add a 12mm, 14mm, 17mm and a 20mm and skip the 21mm.
Harbor freight has a handy ratchet that has 1/4 drive on one end and 3/8 drive on the other.

Tightening an 8mm screw with a 3/8 drive ratchet is just dumb so you should consider mixing the drive sizes of the sockets to make sense.
Also add a standard flat and a #2 phillips screw driver along with a BFH to your list.

Just buy a metric socket set from 6mm to 17mm and you’ll likely be covered there. Buying individual sockets rarely makes sense, unless you just happen to be missing one or two, and you might get a case with the set anyway. Having a few extensions is good.

Torx (and Torx Plus) bits are a good recommendation too.

I usually keep a Leatherman tool and duct tape to cover a lot of the rest.

It is not a socket size - but a rechargeable “shop light” is useful when you drop a socket somewhere dark. I use my “shop light” almost daily in my garage & house

The Mavericks Lug Nuts get torqued at 150 ft.lbs are You sure? I know the F-150's I had were but the Mavericks I thought would be like 100 ft.lbs?

Yes, 148 ft.lbs. I removed a factory fresh wheel to weigh - and I was expecting to grunt trying to remove it. But it came off smooth & went back on nicely. I know torque is torque, but maybe good quality lug nuts and posts feel better?

The Mavericks must use larger wheel studs than I thought. They must be around 9/16" or whatever metric size is close to that?

They are 21mm heads exactly, since most of the stuff on the Maverick is metric.

They use 14mm studs. The lug nuts are 13/16" (.812), although 21mm (.826") will work, but are a tad loose.

Its a METRIC lugnut, so throw the 13/16ths" one in the trash.
