Its a METRIC lugnut, so throw the 13/16ths" one in the trash.

The stud may be metric, but the hex is 13/16". Measure one for yourself.

Torx head screws - don’t know sizes off top of my head. I use a Torx multi-tool when required. Pry Tool for removing plastic clips is handy.

There are both Torx and Torx+ (mainly Torx+) on maverick so get both???

Crap I used a 21mm as all my 1/2 inch sockets are metric and 21mm felt best. Just ordered a 13/16 - thank you!

You're welcome. Obviously, a 21mm socket will work, but with it's looser fit the thin aluminum overcap of the Ford 2-piece lugnut will get beat-up that much sooner.

A bit earlier than the 90's: my '79 Fairmont/Zepher was made in Canada. Is was a mix of Metric and fractional.

They use 14mm studs. The lug nuts are 13/16" (.812), although 21mm (.826") will work, but are a tad loose.

Makes sense since 9/16" and 14 mm sockets are real close in size.

Yes, 148 ft.lbs. I removed a factory fresh wheel to weigh - and I was expecting to grunt trying to remove it. But it came off smooth & went back on nicely. I know torque is torque, but maybe good quality lug nuts and posts feel better?

So 148 ft.lbs applied for steel wheels as well? dam, that’s a lot of torque.

148 is just what's on the chart the engineer uses for that size and grade of bolt for an unlubricated assembly.

I used that 2ft breaker bar to loosen. To retighten, I started with the breaker bar and used my beefy torque wrench to get to spec.

I should store that breaker bar & 13/16 socket in my truck instead of storing in garage? Not sure what the OEM lug wrench looks like…but if it is “short” it would be painful to use!

Get a good 13/16" socket and at least a 24" long breaker bar, those lugnuts at 150# of torque need some grunt,,,,,

just have a 2' piece of 1.25" pipe. It can be used for more than a socket wrench extension.

Best is to just have a whole set of mm sockets from 4-22 onboard. A cheap set from Harbor Freight is perfectly fine. The only SAE stuff on modern vehicles are the seatbelt bolts, and there is always a close enough metric equivalent socket to work (some 7/16-20 seatbelt bolts have a metric size head...). Also include a ratcheting screwdriver and set of Torx bits. I haven't poked around my Mav enough, but I suspect there are some E-socket bolts as well.
Tip: ditch the included bulky case and put everything in an old plastic jar that will fit next to the battery under the rear seat. Include some wire for jumping past any cuts or breaks, as well as a razor knife. Bailing wire and zip-ties are also good things to have.

Once upon a time I saw a genius piece of road tool storage; it was a section of 2" PVC pipe with threaded ends and threaded caps. Inside was a complete socket set and wrench, and assorted other tools and replacement parts. It was stowed under the lip of the bed with velcro straps. When a tool was needed, you just open an end and empty everything on the bed and select what you need. The one I saw was less than 3' long and had EVERYTHING in there, including screwdrivers, Torx bits, vice grips, and wire strippers. Of course it's not conveniently sorted for ez access, but you're broke down, not running a pit crew at a race track.

I was more meaning the first ones they were boasting as "all metric" not sure if it was the Escort.

A huge number of replacement parts seem to end up with imperial sized hex heads, so even something Korean or Japanese, by the time it's been around a few years it's picked up 3/16 bleed nipples, 3/4" belt tensioners etc etc.

ETA: I probably mean 3/8ths for a bleed nipple size.

I've learned to ditch the factory wheel wrench in favor of a breaker bar or socket wrench with extension pipe. The factory bar always seems to fit and operate poorly.
