There has been many questions on the keys for our beloved trucks and as a locksmith I can say if you lose all your keys you will more than likely have to tow it back to the dealer until our software is updated. HOWEVER I have confirmed on board programming works if you have the original two keys ( two programmed keys ) - you can program them yourself - that has been mentioned here before. Do this NOW !!! before you loose one of the two keys LOL.

On the XL or XLT trucks you can either add a flip remote or just a standard key ( possibly you might want to add two cheaper keys as a backup ) On the Lariat only the fob will work however the emergency key is not required. I thought I would put links to which keys to purchase and you can take them to a local locksmith just to have cut - as long as you maintain two extra you are in good shape adding in the future.

XL and XLT Keys - I have posted multiple links in case one is out of stock -
Remote headed Keys - $23.99-https://amzn.to/40xtAk7 or $29.95 https://amzn.to/3RpQJAH or $23.99 https://amzn.to/3WVGxAX

If yours has a remote start it would be this key - 49.99- https://amzn.to/3wNgDVG 89.95 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/3jsaBq7 45.29 - https://amzn.to/3WUcmdl

remote.jpg

Plastic Headed Keys -
16.95 for 2 - https://amzn.to/3HNZe5h 43.21 Ford Factory Blank ( same Chip ) https://amzn.to/3jklzOD If you are wanting to do a "hide-a-key" this one is the one to use due to it being waterproof.

plastic.jpg

To program you insert the existing first key, turn on ignition, count to three, take out put in existing second key turn on ignition - count to three - take new third key - turn on ignition - leave on - you should hear a chirp and a message key was successful.

For the Lariat -
58.95 - https://amzn.to/3XT89b7 109.95 - 2 Pack - https://amzn.to/40m014U 37.95 - https://amzn.to/3XaDs0h For the Fob to work / be programmed it doesn't matter if the key is cut or not - it only opens the door if the battery is completely dead.

prox.jpg

If your Fob does not have remote start for the 2023 Lariat it is this one - 38.99 - https://amzn.to/40ihWsZ

nostart_.jpg

To program - open center console. Pull up felt cover - place first existing fob in depression - push start button ( without foot on brake ) ignition comes on- count to 5 - remove fob - push ignition off - put second existing fob in depression - push ignition on - count to five - remove fob - push ignition off. take new fob - put in depression push AND HOLD start button down - you should hear chirp and message - key programming successful.

All in all pretty simple procedures and a few dollars and effort now can save you hundreds later !

thanks for iinfo. I went to your first flip keep at top from amazon. The description doesn't show a maverick there, as you know. Did you contact the advertiser and see said it will work for maverick?

After you got the keys , you then went and got them cut. What was approx. cut for the cuts?

In the first post it says that you need two key fobs to get this to work. What if you already lost one? Only have one left? Do I need to go to a locksmith? Or can something be done with forscan?

if you do not have 2 working fobs you need a Ford dealership or an independent who has purchased FRDS.

you can only add a key yourself if you have 2 working fobs.

Ok. My local dealer quoted me $275 so I figured that isn't too bad. A local locksmith quoted me $500-700

Pardon reviving the zombie thread.

Just got a Maverick Lariat, bought a new fob and tried the programming routine. After the third fob was in the slot and did the magic, dash said "Key Program SuccessfuL" and I hit OK and ... nope, it doesn't work (yet).

How did I manage to get that far, and still screw it up?

I failed the first time programming a new fob. Went back and re-read the instructions. I think I was too quick to remove or replace one of the keys in the ignition. I would try again, taking your time and counting how long you had each key in the tumbler, and turned to ON.
My experience was it was as if the new key was not responding. I opened it up looking for a battery, expecting to need a new battery, but it was there. I swapped the battery with my original to be sure it was not dead, and then went about the process a second time.

I programmed 2 remotes this week for my 22 Escape PHEV, it has push button start.
It uses a similar key fob like the Maverick Lariats, has one more button for the liftgate.

1st spare programmed on 1st attempt. 2nd spare took 2 tries as didn't get "Key Program Successful" on its 1st attempt.

Followed steps found on reddit as my owners manual didn't list a method for using 2 original keys:

Lock driver door with door switch.
Place key fob in learning indent.
Press start, wait 5 seconds, Press Start again.
Swap in 2nd key fob into learning indent with 10 seconds
Press start, wait 5 seconds, Press Start again.
Place new key fob in learning indent within 10 seconds.
Press start, wait 6 seconds.

My hazards lights would activate and give "Key Program Successful" on IPC.
Tested both spare key fobs for start, lock/unlock, liftgate open/close, intelligent access door lock/unlock.
Didn't test remote start as I don't use it and I might not have it enabled thru infotainment screen.

2025 Mavericks look to have the different Key Fobs as noted below.
https://fccid.io/M3N-A3C108397 Frequency Range 433.589-434.251 MHz
https://fccid.io/M3N-A3C108397/External-Photos/External-Photos-5701473

My 2023 XLT 3 button Key Fob is PN FL3T-15K601-AC, FCC ID N5F-A08TAA
https://fccid.io/N5F-A08TAA, Frequency Range 314.95 MHz

2022 to 2024 Maverick Lariat Key Fobs look like Escape Fobs, but each use a different frequency.

So this thread started prior to 25MY.

Which uses new remote frequency. 434 Mhz.
Prior was 315 Mhz.
https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/...Number: 164-R8334,: Lock, Unlock, Panic alarm

So while the process would still work (truck reading the transponder code from the fob, and creating a table entry that it's valid to be used) - if you got the wrong fob frequency - it'll never be transmitted from the fob to the truck to be seen.

Looking at stats on what you bought - what frequency?

Bless you - that's exactly the problem. New problem - can't seem to find a 25MY / 434 fob for less than $90. Frustrating.

Nice catch! I'm planning on doing the "hide a key" version twice, one for my pocket and one to hide. I don't mind walking up and opening the door with a key. Some of us don't have to lock the vehicle (if you do, fix the real problem).
Zombie thread, LOL! After 2yrs, this guy is a guru!

My link is for 95.95 - pretty close.

Here's the potential kicker though - you just took up 1 of the I'm guessing still max 4 slots available on 25MY.
2 used with original fobs.
Your new one.
You got 1 left - not that bad, still means 3 good remote fobs.
Could still get a non-transponder key cut merely for getting in, to get to a fob locked in cabin.

Now - what you got may work in some limited way that doesn't require the wireless aspect - I think an emergency way of starting vehicle using same spot in cubby so transponder can be read. That may have some usefulness, so not entirely wasted...
But if you locked with remote, an alarm is activated.
If you open with just a key, you got 30 seconds to start it before alarm sounds.
Just to be aware.

The $90 will come down with time, I think. Also some of it probably reflects increased tariffs. I know my '24 Lariat Fob came from Canada. That price is not bad compared to dealer. I then did the picture thing to get a cut key - remarkable! Not sure that option is still out there.

Just wanted to come and thank the people who contributed helpful info here. Finally have a 3rd fob programmed. Learned a bit, too.
