This is what I mean by misunderstanding perhaps.

I've been very clear and copied the service manual instructions. And I've been clear on my responses using the correct terms/abbreviations.

ALL Mavericks have the EPB - Electronic Parking Brake.

NOT all Mavericks have the EBB - Electronic Brake Booster. (hybrids do)

And I've seen other threads in the past - and very rarely see a comment about the fact brake maintenance service mode is for EBB, not vacuum assisted. And no question on model/trim on posts that don't state them.

The rear brake instructions take care of the EPB by unplugging the motor. As posted above.

Now to the OP on this thread - does XLT Lux mean Adaptive Cruise Control automatically, like the Lariat gets?
If so then ok, I'm done making sure it's understood some trucks do not use it, so can't work.
In this case it should, but doesn't.

Just wanting to make sure for others reading this later (as we often ask people if they searched first), understand there is a difference.
Thank you for your detailed description of the EBB and the non-EBB

Service Mode Activation says nothing about retracting the actuators anyway.

Brake Service Mode Activation and Deactivation
Activation
WARNING: Service actions on vehicles equipped with electronic parking brakes may cause unexpected parking brake application, which could result in injury to hands or fingers. Put the electronic parking brake system into service mode prior to servicing or removing rear brake components. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: Service actions on vehicles equipped with electronic brake booster without activating the brake system service mode may result in unexpected hydraulic brake application or a false leak detection DTC. This will significantly reduce the performance of the brake system. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE: Brake service mode is also known as brake maintenance mode.
NOTE: Prior to carrying out the brake service mode activation steps below, clear all EPB and EBB related DTC's.
NOTE: Carry out the following service mode activation procedure to deactivate the EPB and EBB systems. The EPB and EBB system can also be deactivated using the diagnostic scan tool and following the on-screen instructions.
NOTE: This mode is required to deactivate the brake boost and to allow the entire brake system to be bleed manually.
NOTE: This mode will cause all the associated brake warning indicators and text messages to appear.

I posted the instructions above that start the rear brake job, and then the more normal steps like pins removed, pads, ect. And then Installation:

206-04Â Rear Disc Brake 2022 Maverick
Removal and Installation Procedure
Brake Pads

Installation
1. NOTICE: Do not use a C-clamp to compress the brake caliper piston or damage to the parking brake actuator motor may occur.
NOTICE: Do not manually retract the piston or damage to the parking brake actuator may occur.
NOTICE: Make sure that the brake hose is not twisted when installing the brake caliper or damage to the brake flexible hose may occur.
NOTICE: Use care when pushing the caliper piston into the caliper piston bores or damage to components may occur.

Compress the brake caliper piston until the piston bottoms out in the brake caliper bore.

Nothing in the service mode descriptions says the actuators reverse, you just need to start out with the EPB removed.

I tried the workshop method to deactivate the EPB and put it in service mode, no joy on our 2023 XLT hybrid. I ordered the OBD 11 adapter and will use our old windows10 laptop and try it with FORScan. Hopefully that will work

Bringing it to a local shop on Friday, they claim they can put in service mode with there scanner. Sucks, gonna cost an extra couple hundred for them to do the work and that’s with me giving them the parts. I’m not getting in the weeds with scanners, just need it done. BTW I only have 45k on it and the rears are shot. Fix this glitch Ford!

Better to use Forscan even if it will go into service mode normally. Mine went in with the standard method, but wouldn't come out. Could have been a PITA without having Forscan.

Cheers.

When I was doing the 10k service checks, I went thru the Forscan Lite service method just to see, since I have a '24 hybrid.
But no need for pads yet, though a tad lower than I'd think at 10k.

Rest of the pins/calipers/sliders except for EPB are the same basically as mom's Focus, tad beefier.

Since XLT-Doug has a, XLT - then the SSM may apply. May have been fixed on later MY's, or Forscan improved, or some recall update in software had an improvement added.

SSM 51217 2022 Maverick – Brake Service Mode Inoperative
Some 2022 Maverick vehicles may exhibit the brake service mode is inoperative when using the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure. To avoid this condition, do not use the brake service mode procedure described in the WSM. Instead, use Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) scan tool to activate the Brake Service Mode. Run the ABS-Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Service Tools app and select enter park brake maintenance mode.

What does brake service mode do in a Maverick that has a vacuum brake booster?
