Curious which tread depth gauge you purchased? I'm looking in to getting one myself as I've never had one. Are they all pretty much the same? I don't want to spend a ton on one that's for sure:)
Auto parts stores should have something cheap.

Simple slideout mechanical gauge. Less than $5 at Ace. The digital gauges are cute but require a battery and likely don't provide any more accurate a reading.

You don't even need to get out of your house to get one. Just go on Amazon, pick up a cheap digital tire tread depth gauge, making your life easier when reading the number. Or spend even less on Amazon and get the none-digital tire tread depth gauge. Or, at your convient, drop by Discount/America's tire and pick one up for free.

Thanks for the tip on getting one for free from Discount Tire. I bought some tires there in the last year so I guess it's worth a trip there as I drive by there all the time:)

surprised at how many people don't have a micrometer in a drawer somewhere, or an electron microscope. I thought these were common tools for any household.

I should add,
I'm only able to get even tread wear all across the surface of my 225/60R18 Michelins by running 33 psi cold and NOT 35 psi cold.
I rarely have any cargo in the bed and when I do It's usually well below 400 pounds.
People, I'm telling ya right now. Get a tread depth gage and use it monthly.

Make a Journal, with sections, and Log:
Tires,
Fluids,
Miles,
Glitches,
I even check my at rest Battery voltage monthly.

A preflight check list ? Ya think !
Which Cherokee are you flying? Got ppl in a PA28-140

The tires provided by the factory were and are the cheapest specification tires and also different from the same tires that are sold to the consumer even with the same branded tires. The tire companies will provide the tires that meet the factory specifications at the cheapest price possible as the factory will dictate the price they will pay and nothing more.

I have always called the tires on new vehicles gumbos as they are round and will hold air for a time until the thread wears out.
I had a 74 Camaro and just happen to know that the OEM tires only cost GM $8 each. Figuring in the cost of inflation, that's $50/tire today. At that price they can't afford to provide decent tires, which is why the aftermarket exists.

I have a 2023 XLT hybrid delivered August 2023. with the CONTINENTAL PROCONTACT TX 225-65-17/ I have just over 17 K miles. I also have another set of wheels with blizzak snows. So for two winters used those. Yet my tires MIGHT make it to end of this summer. So maybe 11 K miles on the oem tires. .

Anyone else have this bad a result??? I drive slow too.

My previous vehicle was a 2020 ecosport I sold just under 3 years 28K miles and the tires were about the same as mine are on maverick. BUT that had 28K BUT also had snows for the Ecosport too for winter. So the Mav oem tires REALLY are BAD.

Is it just me???

I think I will get Hankook Kinergy PT tires next. ........... 90 K warranty If I get 60 K I will be happy.
I had a similar experience with the tires on my 2022 XLT Hybrid. I replaced them at 28,275 miles. The Continentals that are standard equipment wear out fast.

I’m just over 30K on my hybrid Lariat with the lux pkg and my Michelin tires are still in great condition.

I've been under the impression that OEMs will source the cheapest wear items that meet minimum specifications to save money at scale. Tires, batteries, windshield wipers, brake pads, etc.

My Honda came with a battery that barely put out 400CCAs. I replaced it after three years with an Interstate battery from Costco that put out over 600CCAs. The car didn't have to crank as long to start, and it also cranked faster and not like the battery was half-charged.

My Nissan Frontier had a group 35 battery. I replaced it with a 24F, which was a direct drop-in and 100 more CCAs. As it turns out, the 24F used to be the OEM size, but they switched to a 35 (likely to save cost and a bit of weight).

Tire wear can be non-intuitive.

If you keep them down to the legal limit of 2/32" the factory tires will last a really long time.

However, people get anxious / impatient and usually change tires earlier than necessary.

But you also have to consider your unique driving conditions.

With 50/50 city/hwy and a whole lot of towing and hauling mixed in, the factory installed Continental Pro Contact lasted 45,000 miles for me.

YMMV

By the time you get to 4/32 you are going to be hydroplaning in the rain!
