The funny thing was when I first saw the engine icon - I went to my dealership thinking I had a "check engine" light on....lol.

I must be missing something, but isn't the EV coach way easier to figure out than the power gauge?

It literally shows when you're running electric, when the engine is on it displays "hybrid" and when you're in regen it shows that too ... 🤷🏻

I'm talking about the Power Gauge that can be configured on the left side of the instrument cluster. You can easily see how much you are charging or how much power you are consuming, but you don't know if it is electric power or gasoline power. My engine icon changes from white to brighter white when the engine turns on. Unless I watch it change, I can't reliably tell the difference.
Sure you can tell which by the stacked bar graph.
Those colors have been reported as better than the Engine icon having a color.
And the stacked bar tells if ICE on too.

Yep that’s how I know.

This is what I use. I also sent my old scangauge II in to get updated, and have HVB SOC displayed. it makes a lot more sense of why the ICE comes on. For instance, sometimes I barely touch the pedal, and it turns on the ICE, but I look down and see 37% SOC.
I do wish there was hapic feedback for both accelerator and brake for when you're approaching hybrid or braking. So if I'm speeding up it could pulse when I get close to turning on the ICE, or the brake pedal could pulse when I'm close to exceeding regen. Then I wouldn't have to keep looking down at the ev coach. Or have the ev coach in a HUD...

I'll have to watch the light intensity. I've wondered before if there was a way to tell. My Toyota has a display where you can see whether power going from engine or battery to the 4 wheels.
The main thing I don't like is the engine symbol displaying. Too many years of the symbol being used for check engine.

I find the Power Gauge useful to help me understand when my Maverick is charging vs. using power, but the slight change in the intensity of the engine icon at the top of the Power Gauge is not a very good indicator of whether the ICE is running or not. Maybe I am spoiled by the quiet running of my Lariat.
I don't know if Ford engineers monitor this forum, but if they do, I am asking for a software update that would make it obvious on the Power Gauge when the ICE is on or off. Some options would be to change the color, perhaps add an indicator within the icon, or simply only turn the icon on if the engine is running and off when not. If they do make the change it could be pushed out to hybrid owners.
Thoughts of other hybrid owners?
I put a escape cluster in

It’s a shitty design decision. The engine icon should be different than the standard check engine indicator, should be animated when running as well as support a widely different color spread.

The other is is the design choice for the speedometer… wtf?? How about a real gauge with numbers not some froo froo arcing crap.

If ford didnt have their head up their ass they would provide a number of gauge cluster options including classic gauge motifs and make that available through an over the air update.

Whoever signed off on the new layout should be fired.

Use ECO mode and turn on EV Coach. It will show when you are in All Electric Mode or in Hybrid (ICE + Electric together) Mode.

I think there’s a misconception of some about how the hybrid works. The ICE is used for electric generation only. It has no mechanical connection to the drive train. So basically there is no “hybrid “ mode. It’s either pure battery driven or ICE power generator that is driving electric motors and HVB charging. It doesn’t share HVB power and ICE at the same time.
This is not true at all. The ICE engine is directly connected to the planetary gearbox alongside the traction motor and the generator. It directly contributes power to the drivetrain.

I don’t pay attention to the gauge in my Maverick nor my Tesla. It is what it is.

I've only had my Mav for a month or so, but unless I'm alone on the road, I don't bother with slow acceleration to keep in electric mode, I instead use hybrid to get up to speed, back off a touch, then go steady on the pedal. If I've got any juice in the battery, voila, electric mode.

THAT SAID... I wish there was a bit more "float" in the software to allow for a wee bit more acceleration in electric mode. Anything more than a creeeeeeping acceleration, whether from 0 mph all the way to 50+ mph, and hybrid will kick in. One has to have the lightest of pedal touches to keep a steady speed in electric, and any incline will start bleeding speed that's nigh impossible to return to without kicking into hybrid.

I fully appreciate why the design is like it is, but it's also a simple fact that the hybrid really gives a driver incentive to play the "stay in electric as long as possible" game. As one who traditionally enjoys going quite fast on the road, I'm actually genuinely shocked at how much stupid mindless fun that can be had while driving in traffic, it's like Ford handed me the world's most expensive fidget spinner! But now that Ford gave me the game, I just wish they made it a little easier to play it...

I have used the EV coach. It’s less analytic but it shows if I am using electric, charging or on gas.

Seems like someone posted that the electric mode in the 25 was on until 13% power gage where as in 22-24's was 10%.

I didn't know it was getting bright when engine running on till someone told me, it's so faint, just light the whole engine up. Also what's the green Ready, it's always Ready, for what?
