California has wind power , solar power , nuclear power , hydro power , natural gas power , geo power .
And yet the politicians let the power companies charge whatever they want .
At 50¢ per kilowatt here in the Central Valley electric vehicles make no sense .
I'm happy with my hybrid Maverick.

And ....I invested in rooftop solar 15 years ago , but the powers to be want to strip away many of those advantages ...

Not surprised and very well could continue to go up nationwide based on this cnbc article. But the EV proponents don't want to talk about that, just my 2 cents.

Even here in Virginia they are considering allowing a minimum monthly fee even if you use no power from the grid. Someone has to pay for the infrastructure to supply massive AI data centers power.
That's BS

Ha, imagine that. They can keep their Slate, no desire here for it nor the Scout. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Slate never reaches any big production numbers and stays in business
Oh, I think it’ll sell build it and they will come. I wouldn’t get one though.

It's an all-electric truck. The marketplace for that type of vehicle is very small compared to the Mav hybrid. Ford isn't worried.

4 model years and no other truck comparable. I don't think Slate is comparable but THEY do. I think It will end up a 35k 2 seater with a very limited range.
I agree 100% with you. Slate keeps telling people that with the $7500 tax credit, the truck will cost under 20K. They don't tell you that in September will be the end of getting that credit, and no Slate will be built by September!

I preordered the Cybertruck when it first launched, because running the numbers it could have replaced all my truck needs for my 3/4 ton. I didn't really care that the thing looked like a shiny rolling dumpster, I just want numbers. It was supposed to have >3500lb. payload, >14,000lb towing, >400 miles range, built in side toolboxes on the bed, and enough horsepower to race a supercar while towing a trailer, all for about $80k. When it launched it missed every.single.specification announce and the cost ballooned into the stratosphere. They launched a pile of junk for what a truck should be, and I had to cancel my preorder. I expect the Slate will have a niche market, but it will not compete with the Maverick for most of what the Maverick is for from what I can tell.

Ugly and who wants a 2 dr. truck? Sales on bigger 2dr. trucks is a laugh.

It could apply to commercial uses that doesn't travel much since it's only 2 passenger EV. I see it going the way of the Elio (Google it).

HA yep it when the way of the dodo dodo bird, another ugly pos, but hey at least it planned numerous different colors instead of Slate/Ford Model T's one color :puke:
Kidding aside, it can see the Slate in commercial uses; auto parts delivery, fast food delivery, etc. but guess anything could happen but in a niche market imo.

Amazon is going to buy thousands of these things for their delivery fleet. But I really don't see it getting mass appeal. The overlap between "want a cheap truck with no features" and "want an EV" is a lot smaller than Bezos thinks.

I doubt you will see very many Amazon owned slate delivery trucks.
Not enough room.
The SUV version of this slate may work for an individual doing contract service for Amazon. That's about the only way they will have to secure the packages. They could have the pickup truck with a bed cover, but then you have to open up the bed cover all the time, if you've got 12-15 packages in there, just to get the ones that are towards the front.
I could see them more geared towards an automotive parts delivery vehicle.

Ford Maverick team likely serving some crow to the Slate team.

Facts are facts. Inflation means things are just more expensive now. With the removal of the EV rebates, we will now see if that market has enough mass appeal on its own or if manufacturers were purposefully jacking up their prices because there was a rebate.
Well considering 95% of the EV tax credits were eliminated in 2022, I hardly think eliminating the other 5% will make a difference.

I did Google it. I thought you were talking about the movie at first :p . Hard to find out much about them. When i clicked on the website this is what I got.

This originally started out at $6800. They would use a motorcycle engine, ( lower taxes and insurance?). I didn't know Elio was still pursuing this...at $14,500 now. Interesting concept @ 84mpg. Simple, easy to work on, not for everyone, but a nice niche in the market.
