Yeah the "classic" canned hams are all pretty light, bop over to TinCanTourists.com to see all the variety, though there are bigger vintage described over there too. Unfortunately many of them have been messed around with by rank amateurs and no longer retain their original qualities.

I just remembered that there was a brand of popup tent trailers called Maverick, which I don't know if they survived past the mid 70s. Finding info on them was hard 10 years ago, now seems impossible with recent dumbing down of Google and the result competition with our favorite truck. Anyway, would be cool to tow a Maverick with a Maverick.... they were a bit basic the ones I've seen, beds a closet, dinette and an ice chest.

A good lightweight option is a vintage Apache trailer. A pop-up with HARD sides; but I doubt they'd keep bears out of the pantry. I've seen these for sale in near-new condition as well as restored to spec.

With the number of used trailers, campers and RV's I see around my area, I would look for a good used one. I would stay under 1800 pounds to allow for items one might add or stow in the camper.

I've texted the owners and they said they'd make it fit the Maverick, adding they've done a few already. It would be great if they updated their website to show it.

"Utjazz" Robert,
There are dealers up near Salt Lake City that sell Aliner Rangers or Scouts. The Ranger 10 & Scout are Aliner's smallest versions. Lightweight starting @1300lbs empty weight.
Hard sides.
Folded low towing profile, less wind resistance.
Can be gotten with AC and Heat and there's storage area for a Cassette Toilet. The Ranger has stove, sink and outdoor shower.
It's the right size and easy enough for one person to set up.
Small enough to store in some garages.
1 Person setup is a BREEZE.
Short 60 second video below.👇👇👇

I like the idea of a trailer. Do the fact that you don't have to break Camp if you want to run into town to pick up supplies or you're in a place for three four days while you're touring around, you leave your trailer there and tour.
**Add extra time for leveling jacks.

They are pricey though. I did the configuration for a bigger bed, WOW.
I hear you but weighing the options; towing something vs having what I need on the truck = worth the price. There are already competitors out there but I like the rectangular and hard sided insulated one for year round camping, which is my ultimate goal.

I'm 6'4" and can only stand up in the middle of those A frame trailers. Hell, I can't even fit the bed of the Maverick but a pop-up type camper ON the truck... queen sized mattress would be perfect.

That leaves out a Scamp or Casita trailer with only a 6'2" interior.

Other than cooking, there is no need to stand for the entire performance of camping.
I am just short enough in my shoes to be able to walk around in my Transit 250 MR (not Connect). I can barely fit my fingers between the top of my head and the roof supports, but since I have to stretch to hit my head, I walk around with impunity. Except the back doors. They are lower, and Ford decided it was a good idea to attach skull openers at the top, disguised as door catches.

It helps that the Cargo has 2.5" more headroom than the Passenger in the Transit (not Connect). The Passenger has a raised floor to cover...stuff.

That said, I do enjoy being able to stand up all the way, and would not get a camper or trailer that was a couple inches lower clearance than my height. Probably. A teardrop, where you're not SUPPPOSED to be able to stand would be fine. It's just a hard sided tent that you don't have to wrestle with to set up or take down.

You can pull a little more. 3,000 lbs. is pretty comfortable with considerations.

Consider adding a trailer brake controller. ( $100 - $250 ) Required in many states

Consider driving under 65 MPH. Always.

Consider adding an OBDII data reader to your dash, so you can actually see the numerical temperatures of the engine, transmission, electric motor, generator, and battery.

Consider air assist bags inside your coil springs or other suspension improvements.

Consider a weight distribution hitch.
(controversial if it helps or hurts but a few people have done it)

I've looked at tons of travel trailers.
The options go up significantly in the 2500-3000 lb range.

If you add additional hardware and are a conservative driver, the truck will do it and do it well.

MPG will be 18 but I digress....
Give us hope (if we get hooked on eTrailer) and that's awesome but really should be a last resort now that the 2025 offers 4KT on both powertrains. Just in terms of investing into upgrades without 4KT. Imagine doing the said improvements with 4KT. Then you're in long term. I've installed one brake controller on a Subaru then sold it. Was a mistake to install it in the first place. Learned my lesson. I'll trade into a 4KT then work on your list.

Also, I know you said keep it 50% power or under when towing. What about 91/93? Do you switch from 87 and how long before towing? Lastly, how much do you goose the tongue weight up from 500 lbs (I think that's what it is)?
