I just don’t get it. Well actually I do. It’s not the traffic circles that’s the problem it’s the awful burden of self importance that as far as I can tell only exists here.
It’s the, ‘Me First’ additude, Me First Because I Am Important.
No you’re not.
All anyone had to know was you do not have right away when you enter a circle.
Once in one all lane changes are just like anywhere else. Use your turn signal and take your slot.
It’s not the traffic circle it’s the Average American driver.

Anyone can choose to be better than average.
Choose wisely, PLEASE !!!
Here, Here!! 👍(y)

That's not the way they use them here in Mississippi, land of the worst drivers in the country. They ignore lanes and just drive around them like they are the only ones on the road. Lanes don't exist for them. It doesn't help when the lines aren't well maintained. They all think they are Dale Earnhardt and enter high, then down low to the center and exit high as fast as they can go. Then there is the driver that stops before going into the circle, even when it's empty. They don't yield or stop for stop signs. Even the police are clueless when it comes to driving. The only time they stop anyone is when they are harassing drivers with a license check on the highway.

Single lane roundabouts aren't too bad, but it seems like multi-lane circles are more difficult to navigate to know if both lanes can go straight through, or only the left lane goes straight and the right only diverges. Signs indicating which lane does which are often too close to the roundabout to be able to make a lane change with any sort of traffic around. Not a big deal for those that drive them on a regular basis, but if I come across a roundabout, it takes a lot more effort to figure out very quickly as I'm approaching, which lane I need to be in, depending on where I want to exit it.

They just put in a large multi-lane roundabout near my house, and although it helps with traffic flow at busy times, they put a huge mound of dirt in the middle, blocking my ability to see anything more than what's coming from the entrance just to my left. I would prefer to be able to see the whole roundabout to predict what traffic is coming around, and not just what's immediately entering to my left.
I feel the same way, these roundabouts can get you through quicker than stopping, the problem is they are all different, 1,2, & 3 lanes sometimes, sometimes you have to be in the right lane to go straight, sometimes you have to be in the left lane to go straight, one spot I go through has 3 in less than a 1/4 mile, 2 on one end are the same, the 3rd one is different, then on the other side of that city there is one that starts out as one lane, you then have to move right in the 2 lanes that appear in the middle of it to go straight through & that still put you in the left lane of the connecting street 🤪 Just make them all a single lane & there would be less problems!

In Texas. I remember the time one of the workers in construction would always drive when possible on the shoulders. When asked he said "I don't have a driver's license so I cannot get on the road". 😳

I find these signs a hoot in Carson City, Nevada.

Entering a Roundabout from the west (EB):

Entering from the East (WB):

Told my wife those signs will kill people.

I think even my crayon version done in 5 minutes is better. Do you agree?

When the f*** did they start calling them traffic circles? I have called them roundabouts for my whole life, even if they were mostly in England or Europe. And then they came to the US I still called them roundabouts. But recently I've read traffic circles and even my GPS said enter the traffic circle and I thought what the f...?

Although, I will say I really like them because we've had a couple places where it was a three-way stop, and people had no clue who's turn it was. Now there are roundabouts and the traffic just keeps flowing. And when I worked in 911 over the first 10 years we had them we rarely got accidents in the roundabouts.
Well they’re also referred to as rotarys. I stopped calling them roundabouts because it confused people, thought I referred to carousels. Most of them are great, people complain because they have the RC factor and/or they don’t know what a yield sign is For. I was almost killed in one, both going in and coming out about 45 years ago, by two separate Massachusetts drivers in Kittery, Maine.

I personally hate them.
Not because they don't work, but because people have no common sense and they think the world revolves around them.
I drive tractor trailer.
The small circles/roundabout/rotarys are awful. Some are so small we have no choice but to curb it. Those often have sharp granite curbs that are great for slicing tries. The bigger ones people try to drive inside of us. Unless it's huge, we can not keep the trailer in the lane. I can't tell you how many times I have had to stop midway around because someone drives up next to the trailer and my trailer is about to hit them. They then flip me off for almost hitting them.

Want to met me on a another rant? Let's talk about merging traffic! 🤣😉

Merging traffic! that's where you are on the on ramp and are matching you speed to fall in behind the car coming up the highway, then they slow down so you can go infromt of them! Only problem is, they have matched your speed and are right beside you. You then have to hit your brakes and hope they will go on or hit the gas and hope you have enough ramp to get ahead of them to get on the highway! Idiots! Okay, your turn.

I was doing my morning errands before work today, and while navigating a traffic circle a Cactus Grey Maverick cut in front of my Area 51 XLT. I had to slam on by brakes to avoid hitting the guy.

I don't know if he wasn't looking or if he just doesn't know how traffic circles work (though I'm betting on the latter), but I think it was a closer call than that guy realizes.

Please folks, pay attention to where you're going. 😆
God I hate traffic circles!!

I had a true Maverick vs Maverick crash. Because of the “surprise fire feature” on my 22 XLT Hybrid, I started to park it away from the house. I was backing my CanAm Maverick SxS out of the garage and slammed into the driver side front door. I hit the door perfectly in the center and other than sheet metal damage nothing else was affected. The body shop found a scraped door, repainted it and installed it. Very lucky, thought it might be totalled. The CanAm, not a scratch.

If you are going around in circles, you are doing it wrong! 😁

And never in my life have I made a "U" turn. Plenty of n turns, but never a U which logically can only be done while traveling in reverse.

Wait... maybe I have done a U-turn....

🤔

Im a little Familiar with roundabouts in my Cadillac, Escape And Maverick. One in the city, one in a rural area and one in a shopping mall. I dont think they had 3 lanes going into it plus there is a side street before it. I believed it was to replace stop signs creating a smooth flow of traffic. In my opinion now I think 25 mph is to fast for this one. To many choices to make especially in heavy traffic. I like to enter a little faster than approaching a stop sign. Saying this yes its new to most people and first time is well confusing. So I think when a drivers test is given in these communities roundabouts should be on the test.
