If you think understanding the rules of roundabouts is difficult for some in N/A, try Iceland's two-lane roundabouts.

The vehicle in the center lane has the right of way to exit (cut across in front of you) if you are in the outside lane. Now in a perfect world they would be far enough ahead of you to see their turn signal but trust me the other drivers (locals) take full advantage of the law!

Old and set in his ways attitude.
He's been driving like that for the last 120 years and he'll be damned if he's going to change anything for anybody else or anything new. 🤣

Disclaimer
Yes I know somebody hasn't been driving for 120 years.
Maybe he has to deposit his SS check?

No one knew the rules of a 4 way stop either. My favorite was the driver who stopped 20' before the stop sign so they could assume they had right of way.
I had a new light installed along the route to work. For a few weeks the light was put into flashing yellow for the main drag and flashing red for the cross street. I cannot tell you how many times I had to brake suddenly because the bozo or bozette stopped at the flashing yellow.

Public Service Message: A flashing yellow light (in most jurisdictions) means to slow down (not required to stop) and proceed with caution. Flashing red means stop and then go when safe to do so!

I’ve enjoyed most of these posts and roundabouts are starting to grow on me but so does fungus.

From what I read here, Ford would do well to make side marker turn signal lights standard. I really don’t mind if the guy in front of me does something stupid, as long as he warns me that he’s going to be stupid. so I hope I’ve made my point in a roundabout way.

rookies...

7 +/-2 lanes wide. try this at rush hour.

arc de triomphe. been through there twice, in a cab. once no problem, relatively speaking... got through in like 2 minutes. the other time holy hell. we were at a standstill for over 10 min, and then creeping a few feet every minute or two. it took 30-40 minutes.

btw I did not drive a rental car in Paris and never intend to, either. I drove in Nice, Cannes, Marseille and everything in between and it was mostly fine. a NYC driver probably would've felt at home, but I was a bit freaked out by the scooters going everywhere like they had a deathwish.

A properly used two lane roundabout nobody cuts in front of anybody.
I posted a picture of a two-lane roundabout.
Yes this is an easy intersection they do get more complicated in Europe but we're in the US.
If This Were a four-way stop and you had to make a left turn you would take the inside Lane all the way around the circle. Right hand turns stay in the right lane

We have some crazy roundabouts in BC but there is usually a sign with the layout ahead (like who has time to study it) and the paths are clearly defined in the lane markings.

In Iceland the outside lane is allowed to pass exits to take one further around, but you must watch for vehicles wanting to exit from the center and must yield if safe to do so.

Drivers may not think about it.
It is generally proper and recommended to use turn signals when navigating a roundabout, especially when exiting. While some jurisdictions may not strictly require it for entering, signaling when exiting is crucial for informing other drivers of your intentions.

I agree there is not enough standardization! Question: When does a hexagonal red sign that says "STOP" NOT mean stop and proceed when clear? Ans: When it pops out from a school bus. Why don't the adopt an image of the 3 light stop sign with the red "lit" if they want everyone to stop and hold until they close the sign? Who thought this non-standard confusion up?

I was doing my morning errands before work today, and while navigating a traffic circle a Cactus Grey Maverick cut in front of my Area 51 XLT. I had to slam on by brakes to avoid hitting the guy.

I don't know if he wasn't looking or if he just doesn't know how traffic circles work (though I'm betting on the latter), but I think it was a closer call than that guy realizes.

Please folks, pay attention to where you're going. 😆
i always turn down the radio and play close attention when i get to one of those with some traffic in it - I HATE them - you can just see where some clown is going to see if they can zip right in front of you when you have the right of way - I avoid them if at all possible.

The *idea* may be great, the execution sucks. Most people don't know how to use them, or don't care. I've had more close calls in them than I ever did at conventional 4 way stops. (And a lot of people don't seem able to use them either...)
