What a difference 70 degrees makes! Last few weeks here in Missouri have been brutal temps -12 Fahrenheit one morning on my drive to work. I have had the new Maverick for maybe 3 weeks and hardly any days above freezing. Today was the first day it got up to 60 degrees and wow did my MPG jump. I forgot to look at the drive in to work but my 14 mile commute home which is a mix of 60mph hilly 2 lane road and some through town and another short 60mph 2 lane and got 49 mpg. I drive my truck for work and did some running around today and everything was in the 40 mpg range with one 54 mpg trip. I have to say I was a bit bummed before but this gives me some hope that the Maverick will do ok in better conditions and once she is broken in good. I will report back how the rest of the week goes to add more context to it, it was nice enough outside I did not have AC or Heat on just ran the fan in the cabin or had window down. I will see how it does tomorrow with warmer temps I will probably need a little AC.

On the Hybrid, Slippery Mode will usually give you the best non-highway MPG. Higher than Eco drive mode. Try it on drives that you repeat a lot.
Not sure, but I read the computer keeps the vehicle in AWD for a higher percentage of time in "slippery" mode. May not be noticeable to you now with new-matching tires or generally straight driving, but use caution if conditions differ...

I have a 25' AWD hybrid XLT, as most know. I am pretty much fed up with lousy mpg with this hybrid. This is why I bought the hybrid, to save on gas usage, but that is not happening. I am getting about 29 mpg. I have put gas in it three times, checking the mileage and it is not promising. Even being cold, I have not driven it over 62 mph since owning it. I am ready to trade back to a ECOboost. I know I will lose money on the deal, but it eats at my being, not getting what should have been easy science. There are 25's out there that are ecoboost xlt's and I am going tomorrow to check them out, to see what is going to happen. It should have been a better experience than this. And yes, I think if it was going to get better with a thousand miles on it, I don't buy it. And getting warm, I don't buy it either. I bought a all-year vehicle. My heat bill goes up during the winter. My vehicle shouldn't go up during winter. It should be the same all year long.
You would be getting even worse milage in the EcoBoost...

Actually I was getting 33 - 35 mpg in the ecoB. City, not so much, but my city is 1.6 miles any direction. Small town, short drive.

A quick read as my first extended road trip is this weekend and curious what highway driving will look like. To be fair, I'm coming from my end of life minivan which was generally 22mpg around town and the road trips maybe 26. Picked up the Mav in Jan, super cold out, needs to warm up on the way to work, which tanks the mpg. Warmer weather as noted made a huge difference.
My daily commute is not super hybrid friendly, but trending toward 40ish. I see the hybrid in action as there were a few days of construction that turned the drive more into stop and go for a bit and any hybrid excels at city driving. Aside from a Prius with its tiny engine and aerodynamic shape, I'm not expecting anything special on the highway.

Going from a 22 ecoboost awd to a 25 hybrid awd - this thread is gold to me

Cheers
Agree, I been driving my 25 Lariat hybrid for a week now, had a 22 FX4 and still learning all the ins outs of how it works, what I have learned am going to save a lot of money on gas, I do almost all local driving I got the vehicle with full tank and the range said 322 miles range its been a week and over 100 miles it says 321, I do 15/20 miles a day supermarket, park for dog walks or just driving around figuring out all the Stuff in this vehicle, for a old guy that has driven optionless vehicles for the last 10 years am amazed at all the toys in this truck, the new screen and radio not cutting out or changing channels when I hit a bump were my only real problem with my FX4, The ride is completely different I find it more truck like with the 19'' wheels on the black package and its quiet inside, I like not looking up at other vehicles. Looking forward to filling up once a month or more.

This topic had me think "what happens if I only drive around town?" And that is exactly what I did. I only drove my XL Hybrid to and from work (awful traffic) and whatever errands I needed to accomplish during my lunchtime. The results are evident that these hybrid drivetrains are MADE for sucky traffic and slow going.

Calculated average of 60.84 MPG, and 25.77 MPH

They are made for driving in all situations. They do better in some and worse in others.

But in overall year-round driving, nothing except a fully electric vehicle will get better mileage. People who are disappointed in their Hybrid's fuel economy are not looking at the big picture. One day's drive, or even one tank of fuel is about as useful as looking the one-day performance of the stock market.

Year-round combined average mileage on my Hybrid has been over 40mpg. And I'm quite pleased with that.

Yes. Completely agree.

Staying on the city streets I have traveled 840 miles on a single tank of gas. Keep it up! (Gas mileage that is!)

First off there are no shift points in the hybrid drivetrain.

Secondly, there is no learning curve for driving a hybrid. Put it in drive and go. Less throttle input will result in better mpg. Less use of HVAC and accessories drawing power will result in better efficiency.

Please don’t go around trying to hyper mile your Maverick engaging cruise at 15mph and pissing everyone else off on the road.
I drove a 22 FX4 the last 3 years, I just got a 25 AWD lariat and confused, I drive maybe 20 miles a day all local driving, I have about 175 miles on it now, says 278 in range down from 320 when I had a full tank and have little more than half a tank now, I rarely hear the engine come on, my mpg is always about 28, the roads I drive theres a light every 75/100yards so am always gliding to next light charging the battery, not pissing off anybody they can all see the light is red or changing, should'nt I be getting MUCH better MPG than 28. I drive like a old man because I am and almost always in traffic having lights so close together its always stop and go, stop and go I though this is where the hybrid shines, am I doing something wrong?

175 miles is too small of an amount of miles to determine. Still very much breaking it in.

Im only averaging 32.1 (hand calculated) MPGs over 4,100 miles in my 2025 AWD Hybrid

Yeah but us Ecoboosters can drive it like we stole it, never in the way of other gassers.
Not everyone needs the high mpg’s and my 28 mpg average is just fine with me.

If I lived in a big metro I’d have a Mavbrid.
