10-13 mpg diff is crazy!!
Is this 22 hybrid FWD vs 25 hybrid AWD?
There is going to be an mpg drop with the weight of AWD but that much is crazy!

We are having uncharacteristically cold weather, lets see what happens apples to apples with warm temperature.
I really can't wait for someone to do an HF55 teardown video, or better yet and HF45 vs HF55 teardown, I believe HF55 has larger CV-axles designed as a common drivetrain for a bunch of platforms, the 2025 4k tow package is just bigger radiator, hybrid coolant intercooler, & trailer brake controller so if the powertrain isn't changing it is built strong enough for 4k loads so imagine its heavier than the HF45?
Both my '22 & '25 are FWD hybrids. Exact same build except for paint color.

I agree we've had colder weather than usual and for longer than usual. I never reset my Trip 2 odometer on the '22, and over 2.5 years I averaged 43 mpg. If I was getting 45-47 in the warm months, that should mean I was getting 38-41 mpg in the cold months. Or maybe I was averaging 43-47 for 9 months and 32-34 in the 3 coldest months (obviously not an exact science).

I got the '22 at the peak efficiency time (July) and the '25 at the peak inefficiency time (January). That could be the whole story. I'll have to wait & see.

So I'll leave my Trip 2 meter to calculate the average mpg for the life of the truck and see how it goes. If I can at least average 40 mpg, I'd be pretty happy.

My 22 was in the high 20s low 30s with cold temps. My 25 AWD is about the same. All vehicles get much lower mpg in the cold winter months.
That's great to hear Scupking (Not that you were getting lousy gas mileage, but that you recognized you were getting much worse in the Winter. 😊)!

I was going to ask if anyone who bought a '23 or '24 in January noticed how they started out. Thanks for enlightening us. It at least gives me hope that I didn't get a dud.

Around town for 15 minute trips in the warm weather 70+ degrees? 45-50 mpg.

Around town for 15 minute trips in the sub-freezing temperatures? 28-30 mpg.
You actually keep track of types of trips (around town vs highway), the temperatures, and the mileage you got for each? That right there is next level dedication.

It does make me feel better that I'm averaging 30-33 now. Thanks to you and Skupking for sharing.

Problem is when you're crawling & they're in a hurry you induce people to tailgate & risk rear ending you. Whether your fault or not, sucks to have your car damaged & taken in
Especially when a rear-ending at even slow speeds can bend the Maverick's frame and total it. Seen more than a few of those stories.

I don't know about 2025's

The 22-24's hold about 5000 miles +/- of fuel use data. Then the oldest data is silently written over.

You mean the Trip 2 meter data was only 5k miles worth? I took a picture of it when I was trying to sell it with 42k miles on it, and it has 1393:01:58 for the time driving. I presume that's 1,393 hours. I suppose the calculations might be based on the last 5k miles. It seems like the miles should be 5k. The miles to empty looks right.

I drove "light" around town for 14,000 miles.
My never reset average was like 46.x MPG.
Then I pulled a big trailer 5,500 miles on a criss-cross country vacation.

My never reset average went to 20 MPG.
Which is what I was getting per each individual tankful while towing.

Then back to normal commuting. Getting 46-48 MPG per tank. 5,000 miles later, the "lifetime" is back to 46.x MPG.

I have a 2025 Maverick XL hybrid all wheel drive. I'm a very gentle driver and love maximizing my mpg. I also have problems keeping it in electric drive. It takes a feather foot.
My question is when the car lists the mpg, in whatever screen you're on, is that MPG only when the gas engine is running or is that the total miles (both gas and electric) divided by gasoline used?
If you use the mpg coach, it should tell you the gas/electric balance when you shut down. I've put 15k miles on mine in the last year; most of it commuting 35 miles round trip daily, combo highway/local streets. I've very pleased with my 42.3 mpg 'lifetime'; about a third of the miles in electric mode. I haven't come too close to joining the 600 miles a tank club, never mind 700. Maybe when I retire in '27 and do a lot more local driving. On the other hand, I plan to drive/travel more as well....

I just changed job location.

I went from all city to almost all highway.

BUT I start on the outskirts, go through a city center, and end up on the outskirts on the other side.

72 MPH ---> 20-30 MPH ---> 72 MPH.

About equally split:

12 miles ---> 12 miles ---> 12 miles

Nets still great MPG. 42°F AM 62°F PM

Going from a 22 ecoboost awd to a 25 hybrid awd - this thread is gold to me

Cheers
I have a 25' AWD hybrid XLT, as most know. I am pretty much fed up with lousy mpg with this hybrid. This is why I bought the hybrid, to save on gas usage, but that is not happening. I am getting about 29 mpg. I have put gas in it three times, checking the mileage and it is not promising. Even being cold, I have not driven it over 62 mph since owning it. I am ready to trade back to a ECOboost. I know I will lose money on the deal, but it eats at my being, not getting what should have been easy science. There are 25's out there that are ecoboost xlt's and I am going tomorrow to check them out, to see what is going to happen. It should have been a better experience than this. And yes, I think if it was going to get better with a thousand miles on it, I don't buy it. And getting warm, I don't buy it either. I bought a all-year vehicle. My heat bill goes up during the winter. My vehicle shouldn't go up during winter. It should be the same all year long.

You're getting 40 mpg in the cold weather with your 2025 Maverick? I think I'm averaging between 30-33 (maybe 35).
Yeah, if I was getting 35 I would be sortof happy, but getting 29 - 31, I am pissed. And I am doing everything suggested on this forum. It just sucks to get lousy mpg's.

I was really considering the MY25 Hybrid AWD with 4K towing but don't want to give up that much on MPG.
If you are mostly highway and like to drive over 70mph, stick with the ecoboost. You will use all gas at that speed, especially towing, and the 2.5 doesn't seem as efficient as the 2.0.

This is my first Hybrid, and I just picked it up in the end of January in MI. We are having very cold temps (except this week). I expected that I would be able to drive the hybrid with the same habits as I drive my 23 EB AWD and get better mileage. This is definitely not the case. All the highways in my area are 70mph, and most people drive 75 on them. The Hybrid is only getting around 26-28mpg in the cold at 72mph. It doesn't use electric at all. If I drive it a little more aggressively, like the Ecoboost, it suffers even more. In the city, it isn't getting what it should, but I gather that is due to the temps. I am currently around 31mpg in the city when calculating at fill-ups. I find that the dash computer is typically 1-2mpg higher than actual calculations. If you really want the best efficiency, you have to baby the hybrid and really pay attention to how you drive (like accelerating past your desired speed, then letting off the gas to get it to switch into electric). After taking a 1000 mile road trip last week, I can tell you that I'll be taking the Ecoboost on any long highway drives in the future.
