Hybrids get a pressurized fuel tank to preserve fuel quality due to their increased efficiency/slower fuel consumption. The electronic release ensures that the pressure is released before the fuel door opens. It's less of a lock and more of an automatic depressurization. EB has no such concerns.

Hybrids have a pressurized gas tank, so they require a locking gas door to function. Ecoboosts don't, so they don't have a locking gas door to save money.

Interesting.. I didn't know that. Rats... now I have something else to research and learn... Why the fuel delivery of the hybrid requires pressurized fuel storage, and conversely why it was decided the Ecoboost wouldn't benefit from the same work (or to the extent that it wasnt' worth the extra spend).

The manual for my 2022 XL Hybrid says in an emergency I'm supposed to use a plastic tool stored with the jack to pry the fuel door open (p.178). It doesn't mention the thingy.

I just went to the garage and saw the thingy, which I've never noticed in three years. I pulled it and nothing happened, even after I turned the key in the ignition. Am I supposed to pull harder? I'm afraid I'll break a half axle if I pull too hard.

Yes my 24 eco FX4 is capless, no lock tho, just push in and it opens, weird!

Same with 25 Eco Tremor and it's annoying because it sometimes does not stay shut hehe

My 2024 XLT does not have a green thingy. I feel that I was shorted. My fuel door pops open if I reach into the bed when near the fuel door, it pops open if I hit a bump, it pops open if I stare at it. I think I need a blue thingy, to keep it closed.

Glen, what is step 1 in your manual? That photo is not in the 2022 owner's manual. I searched for "override lever" and did find one mention on p.180 that said I could have to use it, but no instructions or photo.
