The 194 style bulb is only a single-filament (on or off) vs. other bulbs that are dual-filament (dim, bright, off). So you could have either marker lights or turn signals, but not both. Unless you went really custom, then anything is possible.Has anyone tried connecting these lights to the turn signals? I know there a several posts on making the side markers that are high up close to the mirrors into turn signals but I think I would like them a little lower down on the fender.
Thanks, will keep researching the idea. The 194 style bulb is only a single-filament (on or off) vs. other bulbs that are dual-filament (dim, bright, off). So you could have either marker lights or turn signals, but not both. Unless you went really custom, then anything is possible.
So the type of reflector that if you are laying on the ground with a flashlight to the side of the truck you'll see it.The lens is clearly a Retroreflector design (also called a Reflex Reflector) using corner cubes, but it doesn't appear to be a very effective one. They also don't have the proper markings indicating compliance with the standards for such -- "DOT SAE" doesn't mean much without the markings "A" (SAE J495 Reflex Reflector) and "P2" (SAE J592 sidemarker for vehicles less than 2032mm in width).
Note: Aftermarket auto parts in the US are not approved by anyone -- the manufacturers self-certify that their product is compliant with the standard. Even if the correct markings were present, they could lie.
Anyway, these side markers are far from OEM quality in my opinion. They aren't terribly effective and the bulb socket didn't fit very well. I won't be surprised if the clear lens turns yellow in a few years. But I understand they look cool and they're cheap.
To anyone who buys these, please spend another $5 on amber LEDs -- they're a lot cheaper than a ticket.
This may work for some, but I protected the paint but managed to deform the bumper in the process; and was still unable to pop them out. Going to have to pop the felt and go from under to be truly safe.Easy to remove - just use PLASTIC trim removal tools.
Here is a video from F150LEDs on removing the marker light.
I find it much easier/safer to go from underneath. If you remove the engine shield like you are doing an oil change, you can see both lights from underneath. Can't reach them with your hands, but if you use a long prybar or screwdriver you can push the little clip and they will pop right out. Don't pry on the light, just push the clip that holds it in. If you look at the new light it will help visualize it.This may work for some, but I protected the paint but managed to deform the bumper in the process; and was still unable to pop them out.
