Yes , a bumper jack , and then maybe a cinder block or two and scraps of wood as stands ....
My parents bought me a pair of jackstands while I was in high school , didn't want to see me crushed .
After 50+ years I still use them !

They also bought me a Krauter ratchet and socket set , which I still use ....

....memories....

Yes, the rear seat cushion latching in the up position is especially helpful for us hybrid guys as it makes it one less thing to hold while we swap out the 12v battery from its undersized, sharp edged hole.
How often are you changing your battery? And why?

Shame on your salesman for not showing you this when you took delivery / test drive of your truck.
my sales guy is a personal friend, but even they never know every trick of every vehicle every year, there's just too much to keep up with and they don't always get to see a vehicle first. plus, us fans usually know every in-and-out before they do.

I've learned more about Mavericks from this forum than from any other source, especially including Ford. I even found installation instructions for accessories here that were better than what Ford provided.

. Type in the word “battery” in the search function …..and you’ll know what he’s talking about. 😎

Noble thought to protect your fellow man but some of us feel that life without a good dose of risk isn't life at all. Granted, at 68 years old I don't chase adrenaline like I once did but on the same hand I feel bad that this over regulated world prevents people from doing the stupid things I did when I was younger. Again, your compassion for your fellow man is admirable.
The thing is, that you did dumb things when you were younger, and you were lucky that nothing went wrong. But not everybody is lucky.

When someone is using a poorly designed jack and it fails, it doesn’t mean that the user was unskilled and that it was his fault that it failed. He was just unlucky that on that day, with that terrain, those particular weather and lighting conditions, that angle of slope and that position of suspension geometry, that led to the inherently deficient design not being able to operate as intended.

Over the decades, data scientists have identified thousands of these products, or behaviors, like cycling without a helmet, that have led to thousands of preventable deaths. It is better for society, as a whole, to leave these otherwise healthy and productive individuals in the gene pool.

Yep...usually the plywood is for under the jack when the ground is not hard where you are changing the tire. Also....so you don't have to jack as high with that extra 3/4 to an inch of wood under the base.
thanks for that. i was going to ask what the point of the plywood was. i've never been in that situation. something to be thankful for that i never thought about... my 3 flats over a lifetime have all been on solid level ground.

Not sue I would call that little Widow Maker a jack. Please don't use that unless you absolutely have to. ☹
Oh yeah, one other thing I discovered during a dry run changing a tire... The tailgate has to be closed to lower the spare, so if you pick up a nail or screw on your way home with a load of drywall in the bed, you're totally "screwed". Thank you Ford. Hope you saved a whole lot of money on the tire winch.

Oh heck, I used to use a bumper jack on my rusty 68 Impala to crawl under and wire up my exhaust with a coat hanger. It's called evolution (not sure how I slid through).
friend of mine tried working on his exhaust the same way, jacked up the bumper, went under it to remove and replace the muffler...must have had trouble taking it off, car moved, fell, and that was it for him.

always good idea to get one of those plug repair kits - it you can locate the nail/screw you can do the fix without having to take the wheel off - it's a great 7 dollar investment

Wow, your thought process scares me. BTW: Data scientists are some of the dumbest people I've met.

Do yourself a favor and put your jack under the back seat. It’s a lot easier to access there.

Smart! I picked up a piece of scrap iron (it's about 8' X 8" X 1/4") from a local welders shop years ago and it has transferred from vehicle to vehicle over the years ever since I had to change a flat in the Texas summer heat and the jack base just pushed right through the asphalt into the ground while tying to crank up the car ;)
and a spare piece of carpet for the knees
