Bakflip does NOT manufacture the Genuine Ford hard folding tonneau cover for the Maverick. It is manufactured by Advantage, a completely different company.

Since when? Where are you getting your information? Is this a change for the 2025 model year? Multiple sources on MTC over the past three years have posted that the genuine Ford tri-fold tonneau cover is a Bakflip MX4 with a ford emblem. It is my understanding that the roll-up cover is produced by Bakflip as well. Thanks for any clarification you can offer.

Our tonneau is badged Ford. Ours we ordered through our local dealership, from the Ford online parts catalog, back in 2023. The instruction sheet shows the manufacturer as being Advantage. If you go to the Ford parts website you will see it also calls it out as an Advantage brand. Many of the local dealerships (ours included) prominently display the BakFlip brand. They probably get a monetary kickback in sales of that brand. But the Bakflip brand tonneau is not badged with the Ford logo.

I agree. I believe these are aluminum honeycomb sandwiched between fiberglass panels. They will eventually start retaining water, though they will be better than aluminum honeycomb sandwiched between thin aluminum. Those are easily dinged up. If I’m actually spending $1K+, I want thick, solid sheets of titanium, but I guess solid aluminum will do.
You are mistaken. From LEER website: “A Matte Black Powder Coat Finish tops dent-resistant, fiber-glass reinforced polymer.” No aluminum, no dings.

according to camelcamelcamel.com $649 is the normal price, it hasn't been higher or lower, yet.
I can assure you the price on Amazon was not $649 as of November 14, 2024 when I ordered mine or else I would have ordered it from Amazon. I comparison shopped dozens of websites (including Amazon) and the lowest price I could find anywhere online at the time was from CSP Racing for $1056.60 (including shipping) with their Black Friday Promo Code.

Was able to order for the 649 price (plus tax). Any tips on getting the few spots that may leak sealed?

So plastic honeycomb core vs. aluminum honeycomb core. If the seal fails, or it gets punctured, it will retain water all the same. See all the voids? That was my point. Picture is from this link, https://hycomposite.en.made-in-chin...oneycomb-Panel-for-Pick-up-Tonneau-Cover.html .
The picture is not a cross-section of a panel of the Leer HF650M, which is the object of this thread. The Leer has solid panels made of a molded fiberglass polymer mix with a powder coated exterior finish. There is no “honeycomb” core of any sort - the panels are SOLID. What other manufacturers do or use is inconsequential to this discussion, which again, is about the Leer HF650M.

Fantastic! Glad you were able to make it work.

The only place where I have experienced leaking is on either side of the tailgate. I haven’t tried to seal it for a couple of reasons. First off, it only leaks when I go through the carwash and even then it’s only a few drops on each side. If I go through the carwash, I’ll just check inside the bed afterward and wipe out any moisture with a paper towel. I have had no issues with it leaking from either driving it or parking it in the rain.

The second reason why I haven’t tried to seal it is because I can’t figure out how. It appears that the water is being pushed in through the gaps on either side of the tailgate, not from under the tonneau. I think this is a Ford design issue, not a problem with the tonneau cover, as the fitment of the closed tailgate against the body of the truck is not watertight. It would take a lot of seal to go around both sides of the tailgate and I’m not even sure where the best place to put it would be. Plus the gap is pretty wide, so it would have to be a pretty thick seal. Since water intrusion is so infrequent and so minimal, I haven’t even bothered. However, if someone could tell me what to use and where to put it, I’m certainly willing to give it a shot!

Sorry for the long, rambling non-answer. Maybe someone out there will read it, respond, and help us both out! 😁

I see now. It is solid core. That's better than honeycomb. Still, there are a lot of bad reviews for this specific model.

I'm not trolling. There are plenty of bad reviews, if you look for them. And bad reviews mean more to me than excellent reviews because a lot of the good reviews, for any product, are fake or day 1 type reviews.

Here's a quote from ford-trucks.com forum about the 650. And if you look at other HF650 reviews for different truck models on Amazon, you'll find more concerns about the seals degrading over time.

"I share your thoughts. What made me think twice is my two local Leer dealers told me they don't stock the 650 because customers have had many problems with their seals. They recommend the Leer 350 or MX4 instead. Unfortunately, there may be other reasons for their recommendation (profit margin/unit)."

I hope those of you who bought it have a good experience with it. I just don't think it is without fault and the screaming deal that some think it is.

So previously you said you wouldn’t have any hard tonneau except for one with solid titanium panels…which does not exist.

Then, you tried to use photos from a website about cheap Chinese tonneau covers when this thread is about an American made product made in America by an American company.

And now you are quoting a review that is not about the Maverick and readily admits there may be ulterior motives behind the bad reviews?

That is the very definition of trolling. But whatever, you are entitled to your opinion. Don’t buy one. This thread was intended to let people who ARE interested in this specific cover know that it is on sale for half price.
🤷‍♂️🙄

This is straight from an Amazon review. Judging from the date, maybe somebody on this forum?
