Thanks @Rcrew . None of the latches engage so I slightly adjusted it so that at least one of the rear ones engage. From your picture, it looks like the rail does not sit flush against the black plastic cap on the bed. Did you use a spacer? How did you get it to stay square?

Mine is currently installed flush (see attached), but that the top of the rail really needs to move inwards more.

Here are a couple pics & video. Occurs to me more information would be to measure the width of my latches end to end, and other measurements. Will do after my class.

No spacers on my rails, pic should show flush.

Thanks. That looks like mine too. In that case I need to push the latches outwards more so that they engage the rails. What I did was loosen the latch mechanism and push it out for panels 3 and 4. This allowed the latches to now engage but at the loss of some structural support if someone tries to pry under the cover at those points. Probably not a big deal in reality. I made this adjustment on both sides.

Panel 1 at the tailgate was also a problem but here there is a cap stopping the
latch mechanism from sliding out all the way. I had to cut away the end cap to allow me to slide the latch mechanism further out so I could make the adjustments like the other panels. All latches now engage but it’s a shame that I had to do this.

I also contacted Leer so we’ll see if they respond.

Yeah same, mine was delivered today. Installed it a bit ago.

Thanks, OP, for this thread, it made the install much smoother, took maybe 40 mins tops. See pic below (also, installed Mabett mud flaps).

Measured:

Rails: 51 1/2” appart
Locks Tip to Tip 52”

Math says 1/4” ‘lock’

Not much security actually. But would keep a casual observer at bay. 😂

Thanks for the measurement! Mine are

Between the rails: 51 11/16”
Locks tip to tip AFTER adjusting: 52”

This means my original tip to tip length would have been about the same as the rail to rail measurement which is why the latches were not engaging. They were thus basically fitting just between the rails and not sliding under them. Seems the panel support members which hold the latches may have been cut too short.

@TiRiderMT is there a ‘made in’ label anywhere? I’ll check mine over.

Wonder if manufacturing was farmed out to a different location.

Glad you were able to adjust. IIRC when one of my sides didn’t latch I couldn’t see any way to extend the latch. Luckily re-squaring corrected.

At first one side didn’t latch but I just had to square mine up, but even squared up I went back and looked o and as others have said, there really is very little for the latch to bite on.

I came up with a quick fix…

I loosened the rearmost bracket, the gently pulled out on the rail and slipped in a small locking washer behind it to shim the end of the rail more into the bed. Did it on both sides, then tightened it all backup. Made sure the top was square ( just grab the rear edge with 2 hands and tug ) and now both sides have more bite. Easy fix, but I the it’s a shame it is needed. See pics below…

@gzebrick Thanks for the pics. I tried to square it up but it didn’t work on all the latches so was going to something like that as well but with a strip of hard rubber behind it to push it in a bit. I agree that it’s a shame we have to do this but once adjusted it’s a nice cover. The fix for Leer is pretty easy which is to cut the latch rails a bit longer given that the latches are adjustable, but in our case not enough.

I did not look on the actual top but the cardboard box the top was shipped in had a bright (orange or pink , don't remember which) post card sized tag on three or four sides that said "Made in China"!!!!! Mine was one which was $649 sold on Amazon but I believe could also been purchased directly. Mine was shipped from LEER according to the tracking stops!!!

Yep - made in china though the Amazon website said USA.

If I had to do it over again I think I'd apply some peel and stick weather stripping instead of just pushing in the washer. Stick it along the entire length of side rails (sticking it where the washer is) letting it hang over the top of the side of the bed, sort of like a an inverted "L".... this would push the rails a little towards the inside of the truck bed and also add a rubber seal along the edge of the sides.

Cheap enough for 13' - Hell I might just do this anyway..

The instructions said to be sure the channel was vertical. I concentrated on that instead of seating the channel tightly against the plastic. Then I was really careful to get the clamps firmly up as far as possible before tightening. Nothing was mentioned in instructions about the roll of black sticky and I only used about two inches to fill the little square hole where the two pieces fit together to keep water out. I wonder if placing a piece between the rail and the channel at each of the clamps would move the channels 1/8" inch or so closer together was what it was for. The clamps would really compress it. In any case I think the strip in your picture would be too thick. I think anything thicker than 1/16-3/32" on each side would put the channels too close to each other for top to rest between them.

I looked at mine, no ‘made in’ decal I could see.

Box long gone last year. But I thought mine was made here.

I googled it & web says made in USA, with a note that packaging may say China, but that is incorrect.

Leer website still says $1,170 or so.
