Update: Think I got it figured out. I really appreciate everyone's input.

2024 xlt lariat fx4

I am curious if anybody has encountered this situation when installing the auto stop eliminator. The instructions say to just unhook the harness coming off of the obd2 port and put the autostop inline of that harness.

On mine the harness runs directly into the smart data link module. There is no connection in between the obd port and module. So I contacted autostop and they said I must have an aftermarket accessory installed so they dont know. Which I do not.

I attached a pic of the obd connector and harness going into the module. I can't tell if there is a harness connection above the module or not. I was just hoping somebody has been through it already and figured it out.

Not quite sure if you have a XLT or a Lariat, but I guarantee you don’t have an “XLT Lariat.“ 🙂

The fat bundle of wires labeled “universal harness + installation kit + BMW” does not seem at all like a Ford factory install.

Search the forum for “LoJack” and you will find there is a long history of dealers installing tracking devices for inventory control or as a profit add-on. The OBD2 wiring is a lazy source of 12V power.

There still has to be a way to unplug that mess from the back of the OBD2 connector, but I know from experience that it’s a pain to be there under the dash working… Good luck.

These two wires are what mine plugs into
For some reason the wire in the back of the egr port i think is unpluged and one of the enda goes into that the two wires in my picture are how mine is connected.there is no wire in the back of the obtwo plug and the plug that was plugged into ob2 goes into the harness from the eliminator i will get better information tomorrow and see if i can word this so it makes sence!i do have no wire in back of the obt plug.i will follow up in am.the

Correct. It's just a lariat. I called the dealer parts department and they cross referenced the number on the box coming from the port and said its is the smart data link. That it is factory installed. and they sent me this attached google screenshot.

That harness must be higher up in the dash. I guess I may be forces to unbolt the obd port and see if I can see up in there. I really appreciate that effort.

I will get the truck in the shop, with the heat on,this am and get a better picture.the ends are up a little in a bunch of other wires.the one from the input side is reallyl a pain the see.i believe i had to seperate some of the different wire harness to actually find each end that went in the autostop eleminator.once i found it it wasnt a problem . two wire connections that match the ends in the wire that comes out of the eliminator will only plug into the wire from the obd ,diagnostic port and the other end has a wire underneath that it’s plugged into that end.
Sounds confusing but its simple when it all gets together.

Save your money, time and effort. Just wait for your battery to start to die and the A.S.S. will cease to function. I am on my second battery, the original and one replaced under warranty 8 months after buying the truck and my A.S.S. has rarely worked.

It will be interesting when i bring the truck in to have the rear camera issue fixed. They will find a battery that is much less than 100%. Of course I have no idea how under the best of conditions the battery could ever possibly be at 100% when the BCM only charges to 80%.

That OBD II port does not look correct, at all. It lacks the notch at the bottom that I feel for every time I hook up my OBD link to make sure I have the connector in the correct orientation. Also it is not as triangular as the OE OBD II port. It looks a lot like the port in the universal Geotab harness in the picture below. I'm going to agree with the poster above and say you have an aftermarket GPS tracker installed without your knowledge. Get the thing out of there post haste.

You were right, it is a low jack GPS tracker.

My gosh! Just get the device/cable that attaches to the on/off button in the console. So much easier to install and cheaper too!

That's how the dealers install their trackers, unbolt the Smart Data Link and push it up.
Normally it's like this:

Wow, glad you found it sooner rather than later. Are you going to confront the seller about it? Your factory OBD port is gone, I would assume. Don't pay too much mind to the nay sayers. The Auto Start Eliminator was one of my first purchases. It works flawlessly and has the added bonus of being able to re-enable the function at any time with press of the button. I believe with the other options (Forscan) it is disabled with no way to re-enable without another ECU flash. I usually re-enable before having service done at the dealer.
