The dealer verified I did indeed have the CV axle issue a month ago. He said Ford had put a nationwide stop on the part as its undergoing a re-design. I have no idea if any of this is accurate but this is what I was told. I was told to take your Maverick home and we'll call when we have the parts and ready to do the repair. No advisement on whether to keep driving it or not.

I keep reading people are having theirs fixed currently, some are waiting like me, some are on their 2nd and 3rd replacements already.

When I first heard of this issue they said it was a Hybrid issue only, obviously not true. Then I hear its ECO's too, but not Tremors...also not true. Very disappointing issue.

Are you guys with issues who are waiting for repairs continuing to drive? Any more clarity on time frame for the "re-designed" part?

Looks like you are up to date on info.
Small sample from MTC ... mostly hybrids .. some Ecos.
Some modified lifted/lowered. A good number all stock. Still CV failures happening.
At least one Tremor, lifted, amongst the gang.

My '23 is stock with aftermarket wheels/tires 245/45/20 so .2" taller and just wider than stock.

Some reasons/thought on why they fail:
- Mods Lifting/lowering
- Torque ( ..esp. hybrids with regen)
- Just cheap/weak CV from the OEM.

Nothing is for sure ... just stuff i read on the interwebs.

I believe it's just a weak part-

CV axles are very common these days, and you don't hear about other makes/models needing CV axles replaced so soon. They commonly last well over 100k miles...

They have been re-designed and should be available. There have even been photos of them on MTC, by members who've had them replaced.

You can continue to drive it.

Do a Title search on the forum for CV axles or half shafts.

I’m running 265 tires much bigger and wider. Been tuned for 50k.

Lots of launches and abuse off road. Hell was somewhat stuck twice today pushing g snow with the front bumper requiring rocking it back and forth.
Who knows what cause the failure. But glad they are getting an updated part out .

I have lowering springs, and the mechanic detected it was from within the CV axle, which they mentioned they have seen on unmodified ones as well.

Fagetaboutit and drive your truck.
It will let you know If and when it needs attention.
We got guys with over 100,000 miles and they never had problems so far or we’d hear about it.

Yes that is reasonable but maintenance is something I keep an eye on. And starting today I use my truck for work.

Torque does not cause CV axles to fail.

Bottom line - it was a cheap design and too short where there splines were backing out of the collar, stripping, and ruining the axle.

You will detect a slight wiggle/shimmy/shake in the steering wheel when accelerating. I first detected it at just under 50k miles when accelerating from 50 mph.

It took me nearly a month to get it repaired. The shake kept getting worse, but was still drivable when I finally got it repaired. My front tires wore prematurely wore out from the shaking. Another member had to replace a control arm assembly, since the bushing that wore out from shaking front end, can't be replaced.

Thank you for that information how much did it cost and or was it covered underneath manufacturer warranty and did they replace your tires and if so, how much?

I really hope this is the real issue and the new part numbers fix it.

For me, either way, I am committed to keeping my Mav until the axles fail .... oh wait ...!
Is that why they say "drive it until the wheels fall off" ??

Axles are covered under the 5Y/60k power train warranty.

The dealership alerted me of the worn tires, and offered to sell me a new over priced pair.

I was planning on selling mine, then buy a 24 xl.

But I'm having so much fun driving it now, on coilovers, I just might keep it...

Changing CV axles are a pain, but not a deal breaker for me.

If I can get reasonably priced parts, I'll replace 'em myself if they wear out again...
