Out of curiosity did you do any trans fluid change and or flushes prior to that? I do it every 30k on my 2.0 Ecoboost escape since fords are notorious for failing trans.

That's what I've done, had changed tranny fluid at 30,000 miles, I've owned 3 Focus vehicles, the last was the worst with transmission issues galore.

A quick update:

Last week I was told that the transmission technician didn't report a possible cause of failure, but said that all the internal transmission clutches and the valve body burned up and need to be replaced, as well as the internal fluid filter, incoming and outgoing power shafts (idk the name in English) and pretty much all the seals and hardware as they're all one-use. This week the service manager said they're still waiting since last week for corporate at Hermosillo to approve the warranty repair, hopefully they'll change the entire thing. I wouldn't trust any gear in that burned out mess.

It took nearly two months but Ford has finally authorized the replacement of the transmission. Turns out they rejected it the first time, but the dealership sent the request again and now it was approved. Damn suits at corporate lol. Now I have to wait for the replacement to arrive.

In case you're curious, here's the actual list of parts the technician found need to be replaced. Excluding hardware and seals, it lists:

Front planetary gearset
Rear planetary gearset
Internal transmission oil filter
Transmission oil cartridge
Transmission oil pump
Valve body
Transmission speed sensor
Transmission full clutches and rings replacement set

is it coming as a complete transmission? with all due respect to your local ford dealership, I would really rather not have a transmission that's been rebuilt at the dealership, rather than all-new at a factory or at least built by a transmission specialist.

While they have a transmission shop and specialists on site, they will indeed replace it as a unit with a new transmission.

I just had a look at the technician's report. Fluid level was correct, but was completely burnt, then the technician lists the parts with excessive wear that need to be replaced.

I never towed or exceeded max payload or gross weight. I don't have the towing package as it wasn't available in Mexico at the time. Those of you with the 4K tow package you can rest easy knowing you have a trans cooler and different gearing. I will be replacing the fluid frequently from now on.

Curious if that is an issue. I haul with mine all the time and way over the 4k. I have never seen my temps climb above normal. Maybe it was a fluke failure. I did swap my fluid twice now with amsoil trans fluid.

I might be crazy but I've always felt, because I have the extended warranties, that I wouldn't mind a transmission failure and an engine failure in about year 8. Then I figure I get them both replaced and have a new engine, a new transmission, and get another 8 to 10 years out of my car. And it doesn't cost me anything. Rather than having something happen when the warranty expires then I'm on the hook.

well, sure. that's what you have in mind to get value out of the extended warranty but statistically that doesn't happen or no one would be selling warranties at the prices they do.

have you previously purchased an extended warranty and had to use it in that way before, on either a transmission or engine?
