You're better off using Google maps anyway or an app-based navigation, works better and is updated 10 times more frequently. OEM is always behind on updates as well as current roads usually by a year.

What did you dislike about Garmin?
My father in law gave my wife and I one 15 years ago.
I don't really remember what I did not like about it I just remember that I did not like.
Most of the time Google Map does what I need, of course it too has its glitches.

I use Google Maps, too. I lay out my course on the big screen, print it out like a REAL map, and plug in my Garmin.
Most people couldn't use a paper map if their life depended on it. Can't wean them of their electric toys.

I was in a parking lot when I was younger, a girl was next to me crying bc she didn’t know how to get home. Lol. She was hours away from her city, smart phones wasn’t really a thing yet.

I literally gave her my garmin car gps. I said enjoy. I didn’t need it, and I was a nice guy back then. BRB just lost $200-300 dollars for a nice act of kindness. This was like 16 years ago.

ended up being pen pals for some years later through MySpace/fb

Yeah, I recommend going through the apps too. In fact so did my dealer, as if I had any thought of using the factory nav anyway. But they did come out and say not to bother with the subscription nav service and Google Maps was better anyway.

Plus, the dash will actually get nav cues from Google Maps through Android Auto (and I assume Apple CarPlay) anyway, so why bother?

My previous couple of Gord trucks had navigation i used once in a while but then Ford wanted some ridiculous amount to a) ipdate local maps and b) out of area maps for travel.
As soon as it was available I use Apple maps on carplay.

When you open it you get the BIG PICTURE.
No batteries, power, apps, downloads, cell service or GPS required.
Maps have been successful used for a few hundred years.

But how does it calculate arrival time or notify you about traffic jams or speed traps?

I'm not saying I don't use Google, Android or Waze. They are great and convenient, if you are sticking to the highways and have cell service or haven't run out of data. Not everyone has UNLIMITED DATA. I have 5GB a month.
Maps have been used successfully for a few hundred years give or take few.
In my years of driving and using maps, I can usually figure out a ETA. The areas where I need a map or GPS there are very few traffic jams.😏
I don't care about speed traps.
Except in obvious situations weather etc. and school zones. I set my cruise control to 5 mph over the speed limit up to 75mph. If I'm doing 75 and you want to go faster the left lane is open.
The first and last time, I got a traffic ticket, was in 1976, for a illegal U-turn.
