Oil Life Est. Distance?

Just had my oil changed at dealer a week ago. A week later the oil life monitor is at 98%; but "Est Distance" is only 4,846 miles. Seems odd that the estimated mileage is so low. Recommended oil change interval is higher that that. I have been changing every 5,000 or so. Did not pay attention to estimated mileage after oil change. Only checked Oil Life was reset to 100%. What is usual estimated mileage after oil change?

Jerry, my OLM gives similair results. I often drive short distances, mostly in town and don't put on a ton of miles per year. I think mine is accurate for my driving habits.

The oil life monitor has a year time limit built into the calculation. It will show 0% life after 365 days, regardless of how few miles were driven in that year.

The OLM is most likely reflecting the mileage you have driven since it was reset and extrapolating it over a years' time as even though you may have driven only a few thousand miles, it's programmed for oil life to be gone after one year.

Interesting.
On hybrid, I've observed it seems to change the % based on distance (on the engine) and other factors, until around 50% when it switched to time based because I guess it became apparent I wasn't going to hit 10K within the year.

Since idle time is logged, could you be idling a lot more in cold weather, and it's estimating if this continues you got a short oil life?
But come spring it'll start stretching it out?
Well, unless it does the same 50% swap to time based.

Just changed my oil in 2022 EB and it show 6600 mi but no matter what manufacturer recommends I got between 3k and 4k miles. But then I keep my vehicles for up to 300k miles

Maybe you had mostly higher stress types of driving within the last week...idling, short trips, towing, all city, etc? Stuff that would put you more into the severe service bracket. In which case the algorithm might figure you'll be doing that constantly and deriving a shorter interval.

Here's mine about 500 miles after my last change, and I assume it's calculating an earlier than document recommended interval. Granted, I usually do whatever comes first out of 3 things: the severe service schedule, the OLM, or 5000 miles.
