Oh my God. 🤝 Finally someone else who understands the value of making car payments to yourself. I did that but started back in 1987. I had a 24-month loan on a brand new Taurus at 1.9% financing. I financed as much as I could. Due to the fact that I was doing fine making that car payment after I paid it off with Ford Motor Credit I told my credit union to deduct the same amount out of my check so I never saw it what right into my credit union account. I've always had the ability to pay cash I.E. self finance a vehicle. If I could get financing for less interest than what I was earning on my money I always used their money.
Don't tell the dealer when you are buying that you are paying with cash. Auto loans is a huge source of income for them and if you tell them upfront that you are paying with cash, you won't be able to get as good of a deal. Just tell them that you just want to talk about the out-the-door price and if you can strike a deal you may be interested in what the finance guy has to offer and when you get there, tell him you are paying in full. The HomeWork guy has done videos on this

did you read any articles from media, or this thread?

it's about border security for immigration and the war on drugs.

the reason Canada and Mexico are initially targeted is because they are our borders.

the rest of your commentary is largely irrelevant in a discussion about Maverick tariffs.
I read the articles, and yes it was a bit of a rambling thought on how tariffs may impact consumer prices in general (it's not a Ford Maverick specific tariff threat).

Using threats as a strong arm negotiation tactic are only credible if there is a belief that they will be carried out, and to Trump's credit, he does have a history of following through on threats. Who is going to pay for this one though when businesses have had very little time to plan for mitigation?

We will see what actually happens, but a lot of people voted for him out of frustration and worry over post COVID inflation and even higher core cost of living increases (housing, energy, transportation).

he promised this all last year and won in november, so as a Ford shareholder I would be personally disappointed if Ford does not have detailed plans for a variety of tariff scenarios.

now - being able to execute is very different.

the factories retool for new model years annually and the lines shut down for, honestly, a remarkably short amount of time of 1-2 weeks. but even though I (and others) have commented about the feasibility of starting Maverick production in an existing US-based factory that works on unibody vehicles (example: not Kansas City, which makes only F150s) this would be a process that I would expect to take months.

the factories have limited materials onsite with constant shipments for production. (this is the main reason why some people get their build week moved out. something their truck needs was expected when they scheduled, but isn't going arrive in time so they reschedule the production week.) but then now we need to get those components somewhere else.

that price increase would also cause insurance to increase as well as local taxes, in Mass excise , and sales, and other related taxes

Never, EVER tell the dealer/salespeople you're paying with cash. I've been saying that for years.
It doesn't stop folks from strutting into the dealership like they're Joe successful. Bragging that they're going to buy their truck all cash.
In the end you're still going to be sitting in the finance person's office filling out paperwork.

It takes years to build a car manufacturing plant and you need people to work in the plant. It's stupid to think "we will just build the car in the US". It will be cheap to eat any tariff that may be applied than to build new plants and hire US union workers.

Yea ! Mavericks will have 25 % tariff as of 02/25 . Fortunately I have mine . click , click , click or ignore .
It seems like everyone is jumping to conclusions not based entirely on fact. We just need to wait to see what comes next and not speculate what comes next.

Yup! Been doing that for many years also. They sometimes get pissed off and will try to renegotiate. I had to walk out once because they wanted to raise price back up. Got a better deal at another town anyway. Same thing when you have a trade. Ever notice that is one of the first questions a salesman will ask? His "gears" are turning, trying to figure out how he is going to get the maximum out of your pocket! Of course I always say no trade in, get the absolute best deal I can, then perhaps work the trade in into the deal. That said, haven't traded in a car in over 20 years. Got kids who are always interested in buying dad's cars. The are mean and conniving negotiators. (their mother trained them well).

If you are over the age of five, you won't live long enough to see that happen.
I have a bunch of kids books (got two gremlins). All the ones from when I was young say Printed in America. All the new ones say Printed in China. It's not an impossible task to bring manufacturing back onshore.

Good points! When wife and I were working on getting debt free, one trick we did was after we paid off a fairly nice vehicle, we continued to make payments. But, to our own high yield savings account. Kept making those car payments (to ourselves) for several years and when time came for new cars, we paid cash. Kept doing that for years, no more car payments. Our gained interest on that account (and another) was usually much more than we would save by a low finance offer.
That's what my wife and I did. We had a car payment and a house payment. When the car payment was over we took that money and then put it on the principle of the house so the house was paid off like 18 years early. At that point we needed a new vehicle so I took the money that we had been using for the house and the car payment and I took some of that and bought a new car and then put the rest of it into a high yield savings or at that time I don't know what it was called. So I use the same money to buy a house and two or three cars and save a bunch.

this thread is very active and you may have missed it, but I commented on solutions to those issues.

#1 under-utilized existing plants due to low sales of Mustang and discontinuation of Edge.

#2 those union workers are already present.

#3 retooling is done every model year. it's much less change for an existing vehicle getting a mild refresh like the MY25 maverick, and it's a lot more work to bring on truly all-new vehicle, but it is not accurate to say 'they need to build a plant'.

Before you post facts you should take the time to make sure they are correct and not just wishful thinking on your part based on your political preference. Sad people like you trying to post fear and disgust on your fellow citizens due to your political ideology. Even sadder you wish to bring this attitude to a site which should remain free of politics. I wish you the best of luck in your future because you are going to need it so long as you maintain this attitude.
