I'd agree. It was arguably easier for the mail jeep given that I cleared out the ruts somewhat. (don't own a snow shovel) but even coming home on icy nights, the Mav just popped up the driveway.

In all fairness in the video you can see the jeep did not drive in the cleared out areas , the tires were in the snow. But we are also impressed with the awd in our maverick. We live in northern michigan.

I'm curious is the Hybrid AWD performs the same or is slightly different. The slip test video they did made it not look great but your real life test is more accurate anyway.

It probably depends on who you ask. There are several things in play and you can easily Google them.

One the 2.5 hybrid engine has less torque. Even though it's less to achieve maximum torque you have to be at 4000 rpm which is considerably higher than the 2.0 ecoboost and still considerably less torque.

Also both the ECVT and the 8 speed transmission has a torque converter that helps to increase the torque the engine can produce. Unfortunately the ECVT will not multiply the engines torque as much as a automatic transmission.

Not AWD difference but if towing the automatic transmission can withstand a driveline shock not the ECVT or a manual transmission.

I think the video you are referring to is not that fair of a test. The idea is to test it's maximum potential, supposedly. One the test was done in normal and with traction control on. When they used slippery mode and turned traction control off it did what it was suppose to do. Then they went and still tested with traction control on, if I remembered correctly.

Similar to actual off road vs rollers they started with normal and changed modes and not sure they might have taken traction control off. Also all season tires are really not meant for off road. Yes the rollers test the tire whether AS or AT shouldn't make a difference. In the real world when they tested it off road it's like night and day difference.

I would have like to have seen that roller test done over but the truck in slippery mode with traction control OFF and in Low not drive.

I'm looking forward to seeing there off road test after they add AT tires. Which they mentioned possibly doing. If not TFL I'm sure somebody will.

13° driveway

5ish inches a few days ago. Nothing can climb my driveway except for my Maverick. UPS and Fed Ex both slid down, and the USPS attempted it today.

Looking closely, I can see the front wheels spinning a bit, so she was in 4WD. Compare and contrast to my Maverick just scooting right up, even the first time when the snow was fresh to the other 50 times since last Friday. Iced over, fresh snow, it doesn't matter.

Now, I am no fanboy. I'm looking to trade this thing for a Ridgeline, and even as not-a-fanboy I am proud of the way this thing dominates in the snow.

When I was looking to buy a new truck, I was looking at Ford Rangers & Chevy Colorados. Besides the pri e different, what sold me was a truck with AWD. Much better in snow & handling.

I am in Texas. Postal service is to a mailbox installed at road. I am actually along a postal boundary and had the choice of which of two towns I wanted to use. House is on west side of road but I chose to locate my address when I took out permit to use the town postal service on East side of road so my mail box is mounted on east side.

lol I don't see the point. My truck gets up it no problem so why bother? The sun will melt it in a couple days so for now, it's just entertaining seeing who can get up and who cant.

If want services to your home to arrive, that's the point. EMS/Fire wouldn't make it up that driveway either, and they'd have to risk foot traversal up while potentially having to carry someone down that as well. Delivery services would run the risk of getting stuck or either forcing them to traverse an uncleared driveway on foot while hauling packages or simply not deliver (can affect their performance review negatively). Tradesmen responding to emergency calls for plumbing, HVAC, etc., would be stuck below.

Looks like 2 different snows. A fresh snow with colder temp are easier to grip no matter what. If the snow starts to melt in warmer temp, it will be slicker.

This video does not prove or disprove anything. I will agree an smart AWD vs dumb driver in a 4x4 may certainly be better i certain conditions.

I like the idea of a swinging tailgate.

It's a great feature but nothing new. Ford station wagons had the 2 way tailgate back in the 60s!

Per the video - it looks like the Maverick driver did a much better job of keeping momentum up than the Wrangler driver.

Other than the ground clearance being pretty low, what are the negatives? I'm interested because its wider and just overall bigger and the RTL-E trim (2021-2023 models) comes packed with features. Also I tend to trust Honda's reliability but then again, I haven't owned a Honda in decades. Open to opinions though.

Jeeps don't really go that good in snow. I had a 82 AMC Eagle SX/4 with a 6cy. 5 speed with 2.35 gears. A Jeep tried to pull a stuck vehicle down hill anf it could not do it. I hooked on to the same vehicle and pulled it out while going up the hill. Those Eagles had viscous coupling in the transfer case that put power to the wheels that didn't slip. Great set up would go anywhere as long as there was ground clearance. I even stopped on the middle of a hill that had snow and ice and it walked right up without spinning.
