Hi, Canadian here... was watching CNN and saw Ontario Premier Doug Ford being interviewed. Speaking about the auto industry, he said some automakers (he didn't say who) were building Chinese made parts, into their assembled-in-Mexico vehicles. As a Maverick owner, that made me wonder.

Anyone know, ARE THERE made-in-China parts in the Maverick?

Nowadays...
I doubt you will NOT find any vehicle without any... :(

Though, from what I have read. (When I was looking into the history of the Maverick).
Most of the Parts Suppliers have plants, directlly adjacent to the Hermosillo Assembly plant.

I do not know if there are any Chinese parts in a maverick. I can say I don't care. I buy products that I want to buy that fit my needs. I don't care if they're made in the USA, China, Japan, Mexico, Canada etc and so on. I've never purchased any product based on where it was manufactured or where the parts were manufactured..

With the "Modern Way" of manufacturing.. (assembly line/robotics).
You can build the same thing, just about anywhere... :(

The vast majority of computer components (CPUs/modules/sensors, capacitors, computer boards and many more) are made in Asia, namely; Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, and China, so the chances are very good that it's true. The same is also true of the vast majority of vehicles made in Canada and US too, so it's kind of a strange comment from Doug Ford.

Yes.
China has factories in Mexico that are producing auto parts for U.S. auto industry.
Just because it is marked "Made in Mexico" does not mean it isn't a Chinese corporation. Are these Chinese corporations backed by the Chinese government?

As BGN said "
Probably, but they might be parts of parts - for example, the infotainment boards, etc."
Well put.
How many PARTS are actually made by FORD Hermosillo? Even the Ford parts suppliers get components and parts from other suppliers to make THE part that goes to Ford. One example could the seats, how many components and where do they start, the steel, foam padding, seat covering fabric or .., plastic trim, motors, heaters, air bags, does Ford know the origin of all the components? Yes its possible.

Yes, Ford Mavericks built in Mexico may contain some Chinese-made parts, as many global automakers source components from various countries, including China, due to cost efficiency and the availability of certain specialized parts.

Automotive manufacturers typically have a global supply chain, and it’s common for vehicles produced in one country to have parts sourced from multiple countries. For example, electronic components like infotainment systems, sensors, chips, or other specialized parts might be sourced from China, as the country is a major hub for electronics manufacturing.

However, the exact details of the specific parts used in the Ford Maverick built in Mexico would depend on the model year, the specific trim, and the components in question. For a precise breakdown of where each part comes from, you'd likely need to consult Ford's supply chain details or a detailed parts sourcing document, which may not always be readily available to the public.

I think Doug Ford is just trying to protect the automotive manufacturing sector in Canada.

Regarding Chinese made parts... I'll share this, why it matters to me. I owned a 2002 Cadillac Deville, bought it used, relatively low mileage, minty condition, dealer maintained. I had it about 8 years, watched one thing after another fail on it. I brought it into the dealership, for a detailed inspection, to see if it was worth throwing more time and money at it (it wasn't)...

The service manager was kind enough to bring up all the service records from the original owner - a wealthy fellow owned it, and they took him for every bit of preventive maintenance they could. The service manager shared something important - he said GM quality & reliability started suffering noticeably, when they started sourcing electrical parts from China.

Maybe Chinese automotive electrical parts have improved, dunno. Lots of different factories producing this stuff.

Edit... We've had our (early production) Maverick over 3 years now. Aside from one suspension part wearing out prematurely, otherwise problem free.

Since tariffs began a few years ago manufacturers have been sourcing part outside of China at a very fast pace. Tariffs will likely increase again which will like excellerate this trend.

No clue but I can guarantee Ford will not pass any manufacturing savings to us the customer.
