Ford thought they were targeting the Maverick for a younger Market.
That may be true but the idea is to "see yourself" and your lifestyle as the type of person who owns a given product. Getting married creates a shift in that very thing which can include your preferences for style. For Boomers or even Gen X, this would hit more of a nostalgia thing that could absolutely equate to sales but might not be a primary way to market to those age groups.
I can relate to the heat system. Kids had VW's for a while when young. I had a 71 Porsche 911S. Had the old heat exchanger and a couple levers between the seats. Also had the old gasoline heater! When I restored that car, I disconnected it right away. The "combustion box" looked a bit rusty and while I am retired Army and love the big BOOM sounds, did not need that happening with the car! I read that there was some history on those things and it wasn't a very positive read most of the time. Also had a 51 GMC truck, with the vacuum wipers. Step on the gas even a tiny bit and the wipers would SLOW way down and then stop. At times when raining, would be better to just look out the side windows and squint. If we only new that some day there would be automatic wipers with "rain sensors". Hahaha.
