This transmission oil report is for the 8 speed...NOT the eCVT.

I've spoken with more than one qualified Ford techs recently who swear that 30k is the maximum responsible fluid change for the 8F35. Since I missed the 30k interval, I changed it at 60k and sent a sample. The results are attached.

The report suggests that the 30k interval is the way to go. I'll do it again at 90k (won't be all that long) and see if the metals have settled down. My prediction is that they will, and it'll all be fine. It's a pretty easy procedure other than being a bit time consuming to get the level right and seems worth the time and $50 worth of Mercon ULV.

A couple of thoughts. First is that the 150k suggestion is not realistic. Most first owners will never see that mileage...I get it...but that fluid is going to be useless by then. Second, Ford's fluid drain intervals favor low in-warranty maintenance costs over longevity. This is covered here and everywhere else ad-nasuem, so don't feel compelled to reply. If you're new to these topics. 10k engine oil and 150k transmission for a turbo 2.0 / automatic is too long.

I'll update this thread once the 90k report comes in, probably mid to late summer.

Happy Mavericking!

Thanks for reaffirming my plan.....coming up on 30K, and prepared to change the ULV. I'll still get an analysis, because facts are always important.

Yep I don’t think fords fluid change intervals are realistic if you want a long lasting vehicle, they look forward to parts and labor $ from suckers that follow them

I have been convinced to change my transmission, PTU, and RDU at 10k miles. With the information provided on the forums I am feeling pretty confident in doing the changes myself so I can observe the condition of each on my own.

For the transmission - I plan to change at 10k, then again at 30k, and then again at 50k/60k. The 50k/60k condition will determine if I stretch that out beyond 20-30k intervals.

Please, if you can, Ask your Ford Techs what they think the oil change interval should be on the ECVT. Thank you

This sucks.my 14 year old dodges have lifetime tranny fluid. They both work great.one has 167,000 miles.

I have been in the car business all my life and I always change oil and filter, check the air filter and rotate tires every 5000 miles. I have never had a mechanical issue on every Ford I have owned. I like my program.

I've read that aprox. 75% of a trans wear happens by 5k miles (source). Lake Speed Jr, a tribologists formerly of Joe Gibbs Racing, recommends a 10k mile break-in change. Then, I'd work up from the severe service schedule of 30k mile intervals to 40-50k or whatever the car likes.

lol dude there is no such thing as lifetime fluid. You have a filter that is easily changeable and that's the only difference. If you've ever had a tiny transmission issue and attempted to change at 150k only to realize it's the first time it's ever been done - prepare for massive tranny issues now. I keep seeing you bring up this "mopar is better at this and that" crap on these forums and it's not any better than any current manufacturer.

Stop it, or go get a Dodge. BTW, my family has a 2500 currently and I've also owned two RAM's. It's the same intervals to keep your transmission healthy, especially if you tow.

I feel like too many manufacturers recommendations for transmission fluid change is preposterous. In my experience if you've followed their guide and not run into issues then your lucky.

Unless there is astounding evidence for a particular model transmission to the contrary, 30k is the Max I'd go. Time / money on fluid change is worth it to avoid transsion issues.

I will do that. These aren't people I see all that regularly, so it may be a bit.

I get that they're a little optimistic or they're trying to make them seem cheaper to operate, but every 30,000 does seem a bit often compared to most modern vehicles. A lot of them are sealed then say to never change it.
I'm not saying you shouldn't have changed it though. How is Ford regarding the warranty when you do your own work? VW is pretty strict with it but I guess as long as you have all the receipts you're okay.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see anything in the Blackstone report recommending 30,000 mile changes.
They don't. Blackstone only reports what's in the fluid. it's up to you to interpret that and maintain the machine to your level of comfort.

This report shows uncomfortable metals. The silicone is new transmission stuff. The metals may or may not be new transmission stuff, which is why I'll change it and test again at 90k. I anticipate the metals to go to an acceptable level. If they don't, I'll re-assess what's next. If they do, will keep driving the wheels off the thing.

I had Ford techs telling me to change the fluid every 30k when I had about 56k on the car, so 60 was the next reasonable interval. In hindsight, I wish I had changed and tested at 30k.

Each one of these behaves a little differently, even with identical parts so testing and adjusting maintenance helps with our fleet of 14 or so cars.
