This article supersedes TSB 23-2209 to update the Issue, Action and Service Procedure
Issue: Some 2022-2023 Maverick vehicles built on or before 11-Apr-2023 and equipped with a 2.5L full hybrid electric vehicle (FHEV) powertrain may exhibit a shudder or vibration when the vehicle is braking at 15 mph (24 km/h) or below, when the gas engine shuts down and the vehicle is operating in electric mode only. This may be due to the software in the powertrain control module (PCM). To correct this condition, follow the Service Procedure to reprogram various modules starting with the PCM.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct this condition on vehicles that meet all the following criteria:

• 2022-2023 Maverick

Ford Maverick Updated TSB for 2.5L Hybrid engine shudder 1

If you asked me yes or do, do I have shuddering brakes... I would say yes.

I rarely notice it. A lot of country roads and working 3x12hr shifts I'm driving to work before everyone else & driving home after everyone else. I never drive in stop/go traffic. Sometimes slowly breaking to a red light or stop the brakes are not smooth... they're dut dut dut dut dut, I don't know how to describe it... grabby.

I noticed it really bad only one time. I had to tow a disabled vehicle (transmission went out) off the road into a parking lot & in tow mode I had one moment the brakes were insanely difficult to operate. It felt very unsafe and dangerous trying to go slow and be careful but when I used the brakes the brakes were slamming on//off and jerked the Maverick. Not a smooth operation.

Does this issue show up on ford pass as an issue recall?

Does this issue show up on ford pass as an issue recall?
No. It's a TSB (IE an aid/procedure for dealership service in diagnosing and repairing a complaint issue), not a Recall or CSP.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I think this is a separate issue from the brakes "locking up" at low speeds. I had that issue sporadically and it was repaired.

I think (might be wrong) this is a new TSB speaking to the "shuddering" when the power moves from either electric to gas or vice versa. Two totally different things. (P1 here, Ticket reference for those familiar.)

There is also a "shuddering" that happens in hybrids when you accelerate strongly and the entire vehicle shakes. I had that. 2 new front axles under warranty cured it.

TSB = we know there is a problem and if vehicle is under warranty fix is free. If out of warranty sorry sucker pay the man, ask me how I know. (F150)
Dealer said it's not a recall, just a TSB now we do not have to charge for diagnostic time.

I took my xlt for the 10K service and they did a software update regarding the grabby brakes, since then I haven’t noticed it anymore.

I am not sure if it's different to the 'grabby brakes'. The initial post says:

FYI, if you have FORScan you can check for yourself what software version you have. This is from my 4/25/2023 hybrid so it should have the update

Maybe, I might be wrong. But why edit my response. Kinda changes the info, no?

Sorry. I didn't add anything. I think it's stupid to repost your (or anyone's) entire block of text to know it's in reply to you. @FriscoTXJoe would work better. Nobody is going to reread the post again and nobody needs the entire post on their screen twice. It looks dumb when every reply in a thread contains a massive quote.

It's just personal netiquette of mine. Only quote the relevant parts or the parts I am referring to/replying to. Like quoting a source in a university paper... You only quote the important part not an entire page/paragraph of the source.

I get that but you replied to my entire message, not just one paragraph.

No biggie. I had no idea "netiquette" was a thing. You must be online more than I . Have a great weekend, my Mav don't shutter when flooring it, it don't start on fire and the brakes don't grab so I am rolling smooth!
