Spent a couple of weeks in the Outer Banks (OBX) near Cape Hatteras, exploring various beaches with the Mav. Some areas had deep, loose sand, but the vehicle handled it well in both sand mode and normal mode. Once I forgot to lock the rear end and the AWD system handled it flawlessly. Most days, airing the tires down to 19 PSI was enough, though I had to go down to 17 PSI on one occasion. The truck performed impressively in the deep sand. I felt it bottom out a few times, but never came close to getting stuck. Drove along existing tracks at times, and ventured off into untouched areas as well.

I take it you didn’t go to the northern end of hatteras near the Virginia nc border.its a lot tougher to get on that sand without a few modifications 😎tow trucks make good money towing trucks out for people who thought it would be a piece of cake!

There is a whole FB page devoted to people who take their vehicles on Carova (Corolla) Beach and get stuck. If the sand is hard and compact you can probably take a Honda Civic on it but if it's not you are going to be paying $250 or more for a tow and most of the idiots don't even air down. Apparently people can't read the signs that say 4X4 vehicles only.

We were there last week, and rest assured the Tremor handled it with ease. Didn't even use Sand Mode. Just engaged 4 wheel drive - or all wheel drive if you prefer - and locked the rear. Easy as pie.

I can say that that’s not the case for the maverick. I own a few off road vehicles. The sand at silver lake sand dunes is very tough especially with the hills. Air down to 12-14psi and run sand mode. These are much more capable than most people think. Own g a 23 f-150 with lockers and copper stt pros on it I can say the maverick is quite the machine in the sand. Obviously watch for centering but other than that the awd is pretty dang good.

My first trip to the OBX was in 2023. Co-workers asked if I was going to drive on the beach. I said no why would I? They said because you can with a 4 x 4. My reply was I was going to sit on the beach not spend hours cleaning sand out of my truck, bad enough cleaning out from between my toes. If you enjoy driving on the beach that's great, I personally see no reason to other than to say look I drove in sand.
Long walk with all your fishing gear.

lol I live like 5min from the beach and never ever go.
I do enjoy the sand dunes so I guess that’s kinda the beach. I mean it is the beach next to Lake Michigan

#1, don't fish. #2 the beach house we rent has a walk right to the beach. #3, the only place to drive on the beach during peak times is Corolla so why would I drive there when I can walk out the back door and be on the beach? #4 "

Do you need a 4WD vehicle to drive on the Outer Banks beaches?

Visitors most definitely need a 4WD vehicle to drive on the Outer Banks beaches to avoid getting stuck in the soft sand.

Can you drive on the Outer Banks beaches with an all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle?

Visitors are discouraged from driving on the Outer Banks beaches with an AWD vehicle. A 4WD vehicle is needed to navigate the soft sand. "
My Maverick does just fine in soft sand. I used to have a 2D Silverado 2500 gasser with 33x12.5R18 Nitto mud grapplers and it didn’t go nearly as well in soft sand in 4-low as my Maverick does.

Yeah Lake Eire, I thought had a beach, but the ocean is a different experience. I am learning to fill my tumbler with bourbon and coke, sit under the pop up to avoid the sun burn (my argument is I can stay out of the sun by NOT sitting at the beach), sit and watch people face plant into the water, then go clean up and have a nice dinner.
Lake Michigan has the best beaches out of the lakes. I agree eries is not great. The ocean and Lake Michigan have similar beaches to the ocean except tides.
