Been hauling our sailboat to the beach for a couple of years now and figured I’d show my tricks with the hitch extender. Using the straps for extra tension makes a huge difference.

Is that load legal, in my state anything beyond 3 ft from tailgate is illegal
In Texas anything past 48" from the brake/turn lights require a red flag. Some put an additional brake/turn/clearance bar near end of load.

It differs state to state. In my state it’s actually 15 feet from the center of the rear axle. 18” red flag required.

Maybe you should get a trailer.

I have the same hitch extender. Super handy for long loads. I used it for 12' lumber. I put on an long streamer type red flag. Bonus: No tailgaters behind a load like that.

15 ft canoe:
Ford Maverick How to fit a 14-foot sailboat in a Maverick (video) 1720387526668-8i

I wouldn't recommend this method for anything but a short trip. Roof loading would be better. In Michigan, as long as the overall vehichle and load is less than 40ft, and anything sticking out 4ft or more is flagged, it is technically allowed. That leaves over 23ft past the bumber on a Maverick, which would be insane.

If have the trailer brake controller option, one could make a harness with the trailer connector and run to some lights to have the brake, turn, and flashers ... even backup on the 7-pin ... to place on whatever hauling that's sticking out.

Might save the 🥓 ... from tailgaters and texting fools ... and "auto cruise" peeps.

Why? He said he's been doing it for a couple of years and made a video demonstrating how he does it. Seems to be working just fine for him. Trailers are a PITA for most people, separate license/upkeep, having to store it, etc.
