Question for anyone reading this. How many times have you actually needed to strap something down to the tailgate? I’ve been driving pickup trucks for over 35 years and I’ve never once needed to strap anything down and n the tailgate.

I doubt if your previous trucks had baby beds where you HAD to use the tailgate.

Every time I carry a sheet of plywood. "Similar" to this pic, hook on one tailgate tie down, go diagonally under to the middle, bring to the top and hook to the other tie down.
Ford Maverick Today I installed a homemade tailgate anchor by Lane. Excellent purchase, fits exact, looks great: Thanks Lane! 1772377621450-al

I'll be getting a set from @Lane: Tailgate Tie Down Bracket, Clears Tailgate Assist Strut

Makes you wonder why Ford put them in in the first place.

When installing my tailgate assist, I had to remove the OEM anchor on the left side. I decided to remove and replace the one on the right side, as well, so the anchors looked the same and did not lose functionality, though I doubt I'll ever need to use them.

No,just coated it with oil before I put it on
You coated a new, nicely painted part that resides in the bed with oil?

Thanks for the mention, Dave! For anyone that would like one, I have a thread here in the For Sale forum. Even though I just made one for myself to start, I enjoy the hands-on time in my workshop and keep making more.

The way my luck works.... if I'd removed this bracket and left it missing, THAT'S exactly when I would have needed it. I think it's like auto insurance. Although I haven't had a claim in decades, I'm still going to make sure I have it for when I DO need it.

Forum member @MakinDoForNow shared a photo that's the best illustration to date that I've seen, which shows the value of having the two tailgate mounted tie-down points available.

If you install the tailgate damper strut, don't lose a tie-down point!

i use it fairly often. There are many things I have transported that are slightly longer than the bed that I put the tailgate in the open tilt position and strap items to the tailgate anchors.

Yes, every year one coat of oil on every part of the truck I can get at . ie: trailer hitch, fender screws inside bottom of doors, inside bottom of tailgate, etc. Keeps truck looking brand new( no rust) They use lots of salt on the roads where I live. Last fall the 12 year old Dodge ram I traded in for the new Mav still looked brand new . Some one bought it from the dealer within one week

I'd think that would attract every piece of dirt in 2 counties.
