During the heat of the summer, my Maverick hybrid gets its best fuel mileage. Last year I posted that I got over 900 miles on one tank of fuel. The goal this year was to get 1000 miles. If I had to, I was prepared to go well past empty to get my 1000 miles.

I filled up just before the July 4th weekend. We had a long hot / dry summer that helped in my quest. I used my truck for work trips only. Just a little over 11 miles each way. Never once did I make a shorter trip. I work very early in the morning so there’s no traffic. On the way home it’s more downhill. I never used the ac all summer and always drive in ECO mode. The final tally was…..

1106 miles!

I thought about going for 1200 miles. I just got under the empty on the dash shortly before the 1100 mark. I figured there was at least a gallon of fuel left in the tank. What I didn’t want to do was run out and then have to put a little fuel in to get me to the gas station.

The only disappointment was last year after getting 900 miles, the computer projected I’d get even more mileage after fueling up. This year after getting 1106 miles, the computer projected me at only 930 miles! The weather cooled off a bit in the last week and my fuel mileage dropped. That might have been the reason for the numbers dropping.

Has anyone done better on one tank of fuel? I haven’t been following this forum but thought I’d post my results. I’m done hyper mileing as even my wife thinks I’m a nut. I had a goal and I crushed it. I do love my Maverick. It’s the best truck I’ve ever owned!

Congrats to you! This is a most difficult feat, especially when you can't control what traffic ends up on the road with you. I've ended up satisfied to usually get about 700 miles to a tank. I know of no one who has done 900 let alone over 1000. I do know the Maverick hybrid is capable of extremely good mileage if the conditions are right!

Man, were you driving 15MPH? How do you even do this? I think getting a little over 600 miles on a tank is great, and I usually only manage to pull it off once a year. I rarely let the tank go below 1/4, so that's a factor. :ROFLMAO:

I get around 600 (which is about 200 more than my last car) but my commute is highway 90% and Ive got to stay over 60 to avoid getting killed and I do use the AC "occasionally"

Impressive feat and congrats. So the onboard computer "learns" your driving habits and then estimates your fuel range? That would explain why it's projecting such high values. For me , this will never happen BUT I am happy getting 525-550 miles per tank and have only filled up three times where I'm currently sitting at 2200 miles. Dealer filled up my first tank

I'm so impressed that you achieved this on 11 mile trips! That's a lot of cold starts. I wonder how many miles you would have gotten if each trip was 30 miles of the same driving instead (of course, that would be awful, so probably best not).

I can easily go 2 months on one tank of gas in my EB. However, when I get to half tank I fill back up - to avoid getting stale gas in my tank. Half tank a month driving in Sport Mode with the AC on yahoo!!

Congratulations for becoming the guy nobody wants to get stuck behind! Nice numbers. Had to drive from Florida to Jersey in my wife's Prius one year and wanted to see if I could get at least 50mpg average. Drove the whole 1040 miles without ever going over 55mph. Not everyone was excited about my quest!

Learns?
No.

Looks up what the past say 200 was for MPG, and estimates how much fuel left, and maths out the remaining.
Yes.

If you just finished a high speed trip with lower mpg on the top 1/4 tank, and then very good mpg on the rest - you can watch the estimate keep going longer.
Running average of last some chunk of miles.

Of course the fun one is the opposite direction, with high DTE estimates as you start your long highway trip - you think you got your fuel stop planned out safely, and the DTE keeps dropping much faster.
