The volume seller is the XLT because of its great value. It's right in the sweet spot of not too pricey while at the same time having enough features to keep someone happy. However, the Lariat is what I chose because of the fact that you can get it fully-loaded (aside from the FX4 package) right at $35,000. It's such a great value for that reason. That's if you can find an honest, reputable dealer that doesn't do greedy markups. Fortunately that was not the case for me. I've always had to compromise on vehicles in the past so it's nice to finally get what I want by ordering. That's the first time I've ever done that. To answer your second question, I do not regret getting a Lariat in the slightest. I would not want to go backwards to get the XLT, even if it means paying a little more for it. The upgrades such as heated seats, B&O sound system, leather, acoustic windshield, nicer wheels and headlights are totally worthwhile.
The only thing leather (or claims to be) is the steering wheel, the seat are Active-X premium vinyl, but still very nice and easy maintenance.

If the main reason people are having a hard time deciding between the 2 trims is the vinyl seats. I’d suggest taking a hard look at katzkins’ offerings. They are very affordable and their prices include install. I had them on my last truck and my father in law just had them installed on his. Very good quality and much much cheaper then going up a trim.

Katzkin quoted my Sporttrac at $1700 for the basic two row single color last year. That's just the actual area you sit on in leather, The sides back and lower area were all vinyl. Quite a bit more expensive for all leather.
That was a year ago, I can't imagine prices have gone down.

OK. Still don't follow, but ok.
There's a lot of anti-boomer sentiment in social media, etc. Over the years I've rarely seen cars with brown interiors. (I do like the light tan leather seats I've seen in red Ferraris, lol.)

Our Porsche was tan tan tan tan-tan-tan tan tan. Everything inside was tan. Seats, carpets, headliner, dash, wheel.. never again on that.

Outside was brown.

I doubt my October hybrid XLT will be built in time, so when the time comes I’m going for the lariat.

Our highlander had a grey exterior, 7 shades of grey interior and a black steering wheel. It became depressing to drive but was a rockstar from a maintenance/quality standpoint - Our Lariat does reek of rich mahogany- We bumped up from XLT, I really miss the orange bits but needed LED lights and cloth seats for this crew was a hard no although they look really nice .

I got the Lariat Lux by accident from a cancelled order while waiting for my base XL.
- Now I love the Lariat with LUX package which I never though I would use.
- I use the power slider rear window every day with the moonroof for quiet air flow.
- The heated seats and steering wheel will be great for the winter (had this in a previous car)
- Love the adaptive cruise control when on the interstate.
- The sound system is also the best I have ever had - very little road noise in the cabin.

LED lights.. the DRL and taillights and additional ambient lighting, is what you mean?

That's overkill. Brown exterior? Don't think I've ever seen that, either. Especially in a Porsche.
