This is a package that I ordered. One of the items included in this order states "power locking tailgate". I haven't been able to find anything to explain this

Tailgate locks when you lock your doors. You don't need a separate key or FOB. To unlock, just unlock your doors. This is a package that I ordered. One of the items included in this order states "power locking tailgate". I haven't been able to find anything to explain this
Yep, So right you are. With a locking tailgate and a shell topper, hard trifold or a rolling tonneau cover, the truck bed is pretty secure and you can put things in there that would otherwise need to be in the cab to be secured. The locked tailgate also prevents access to the tonneau cover releases. With a soft top you can just knife it to get into the bed.

Just disconnect the electric locking mechanism, then?I wish the locking tailgate was separate option that wasn't automatically included as a part of any package, like the 300A. Unless you plan to get a hard cover it's a worthless feature, at best, and an aggravation (at least for me) to have to get out the keys every time I want to open the tailgate if the truck happens to be locked.
One thing to keep in mind with hard tonneau covers with the pull cord style release is that it's VERY easy to pop many of them with a coat hanger shoved through the gap between cover and tailgate. With a locking tailgate and a shell topper, hard trifold or a rolling tonneau cover, the truck bed is pretty secure and you can put things in there that would otherwise need to be in the cab to be secured. At least Ford saw the issue with this and installed a form of retention. It's not super secure but it does need the correct torx bit to remove so it might stop a casual thief from an easy opportunity.I am glad it is included. Tailgates are designed to be easily removed. It is also nice to lock your tailgate even without a cover to keep it from being stolen.
All trucks should come standard with a power locking tailgate... Don't like it disable it. Most people want it.I wish the locking tailgate was separate option that wasn't automatically included as a part of any package, like the 300A.
