Had both. Sold the XLT because I wanted awd (had a hybrid w lux). Took the $6k profit and bought XL eco awd 4k tow. Love it but miss the better mileage. Also power mirrors were nice…

There is a price difference of almost $2600 between an XL and an XLT with nothing added. The only difference I see is wheels, rear armrest drink holders, change in color of certain pieces and the ability to add options. Is there anything significant I missed? I was considering upgrading order to an XLT but don’t see the value. Either one would be no options other than CP360 and hitch.
First I think it's 2500, 23815 vs 26315 if I remembered correctly. It is hard not having a brochure to visualize the differences or an item chart with x showing what is included. I personally think Ford should do more to make it better for consumers trying to decide which trim and options they want and especially with low or no inventory for buyers to order. Now I don't have the answers but just like yourself I had to research and because the changes made from 22, 23 and 24 model years makes it even more difficult. Anyway I will try to list the advantages or what you gain. Please research to make sure it's correct I'm not guaranteeing that this is true or correct or that I might have forgotten some items as well.

I believe you get an upgraded exterior, a little chrome on the grille for one. Like you mentioned the wheels are upgraded to carbonized aluminum wheels, you also get the flex bed which is not available on the xl just like many options which you posted.

The interior is upgrade with a unique cloth seats, some orange added in areas and like you mentioned a fold down armrest with drink holders in the back seat.

Functional options is I repeat the flex bed, the tailgate comes with a lock that works with your FOB or the lock/unlock buttons in the interior which is not only convenient but safety if your planning on a cap or tonneau cover later. Like what was posted you also get remote mirrors that are almost a must have if either you have more drivers and/ or tow anything or haul.

Like was posted the resale value because of the XLT trim and what is included in the XLT trim package.

Now you can not afford to change the interior cloth seats, armrest etc. Unless you don't mind paying thousands. That being said you can buy carbonized aluminum wheels, locking tailgate. I don't think you can come close to adding remote mirrors because of the added cost just like upgrading the cloth interior.

Now the XLT is more money but you get value for that money. It just depends on individual preferences.

I will give you an example of value. Let's say you were buying 2.0 ecoboost AWD, 4k tow and you were thinking of the XL trim but adding wheels and all terrain tires aftermarket.

1500 wheels, 1000 all terrain tires, locking tailgate with FOB 200? Ball park 2700 give or take. If you bought the XLT 2500 then FX4 800 it's around 3300.

The XLT in this example shows the value XLT has because for 500 you would get all terrain tires blacked out aluminum wheels, larger screen from 4 to 6.5 inches, two additional driving modes, hill descent, skid plates, tow hooks, FX4 emblem, HD fan and shroud for extra cooling.
Along with remote mirrors and everything I posted on the XLT trim including down the road resale value having the upgraded trim level.

I did this example to show there is value in the XLT trim but it also depends on a buyers wants and needs. Similar to some want a hitch others want to make sure they have a trans cooler and the ability to tow more possibly down the road or pull the wife's or childrens car out of the snow bank. Nothing wrong with the XL trim it is a base value but both the XL and XLT have value. It boils down to what the consumer or buyer wants or needs.

Best of luck figuring out which is best for you. It took awhile for me looking at the pros and cons. Ultimately I ordered an XLT trim knowing that others have purchased the XL or Lariat trim but the XLT was the best bang for the buck for myself and gave me the items I needed or wanted along with extra convenience's.

Once the 2023 XL added cruise control that took my biggest reason for the XLT away and was initially looking for an XL, but they were a little harder to find in Hybrid when I was looking so I ended up with an XLT. Cutting the XL color options for 2024 made it more difficult to want the XL since all the available colors were my 3/4 choice. I'm happy with my purchase though and glad I ended up with the XLT.

When production was a bit tighter, some of us went with XLT (and switched to EB) simply to get the truck scheduled.
Exactly what I was going to type. It just had a better chance of getting scheduled.

Cruise Control. I wanted the XL, but Cruise is only available with the XLT or Lariat. Almost $3K for a $200 option, but that's what I had to pay.
So easy to add it via Forscan though!

You bring up some good points. In consolidation -
  • Power locking rear tailgate
  • Power mirrors
  • Cruise (only applicable to 2022)
  • Upgraded interior (seats, rear armrest, materials, orange accents)
  • Wheels and tires
  • Flex bed
  • Ability to add Lux package and sunroof (2023+)

As MTC has shown, pretty much everything but the power mirrors and the interior accents can be added to an XL should someone want it - but they would not likely be able to do it for the $2,500 upcharge to XLT.

I also did not want CP360 (I like my blind spot mirrors) but for those who wanted power mirrors they had to opt for CP360 which eats into the difference by $650.

XL vs XLT is a bit of a tossup for me. Not huge benefits to the XLT, but having to buy wheels out of pocket vs financing it once is an issue. Also MSRP is a big factor in resale. It seems to be exactly what is looked at on used Mavericks and how much above or below the MSRP it will sell for based on condition, mileage, etc. That said if you are planning to move on in a short time the cost to upgrade to XLT is very little.

Have power mirrors in my XL, but rarely use them.

XL Tailgate locks, but only with a Key.
My XL has power mirrors (CP360 option)
XL has cruise since the end of 2022.
Blue/Gray interior is a downgrade to me. Like the black better.
I upgraded to 18" Alum wheels I like for $250.
Added 4 additional Stainless Tie downs for $5. Bought cubby bin for $20.
No need for Lux, and Sunroof takes away headroom.

CP360, Nicer Wheels, cubby bin and Tie downs cost me $925. A hell of a lot better deal than the XLT package, which I would've replaced those wheels anyway. Ordering the XLT I would've had to order the BAP for another $1500 to get rid of the blue seats.

That's really the wonderful thing about the Maverick. There is a bowl of porridge for just about everyone.

@Scott Asheville had a slightly more sarcastic take on it, but I really do hope everyone who has bought their Maverick enjoys the trim level and drivetrain they choose otherwise they made a big investment in something that isn't enjoyable or fun for them to drive.

By no means am I kicking dirt on an XL, or a hybrid - as I wanted one for 18 months until I was told to switch to EB and I went Tremor.

I think at resale people don't care what you paid ,they only care how little they can get the truck for and bells and whistles come second. Example used maverick xl 25,000 or xlt 27,600.

I started doing a little rideshare on the weekends, and getting 43-49 mpg around town. Posted a poll in an Uber group, and out of 50 responses only one other driver gets 44-50mpg regularly. Very happy with my hybrid.

I don't think you are missing anything.

Hind sight is 20/20.
I should be driving a '22 XL optioned with CP360, Power Moonroof, and Hitch.
My only "must have" were power mirrors.

But no ... I had to have "The Blue" one ...."forcing" me to pay $395 for fancy paint
(Alto Blue not available on XL trim) on top of the XLT "upgrade" fee.

I am currently tempted to buy a second Maverick.
If I was to order today, it would be an XL + 4k Tow (+AWD) + CP360.
It will cost at least $1000 more OTD than my current Mav.
While I love my moonroof, I would not upgrade to the XLT just to get that option.

I love what I have ...but the XL Trim really would meet my needs just fine.
