Excellent suggestion JD - is there enough room to mount the camera under the 3rd brake light lense (inside the brake light enclosure) so I don’t need to go outside and breach the water tight seal of the 3rd brake light enclosure? I definitely have enough wiring to reach that location - thank you for your input I will Into this👍
I put mine at the bottom of the 3rd brake light using the metal mount it came with. The foam on the backside of the 3rd has enough room for everything to mount and still make a good seal.

I will remove the 3rd brake light lense and look at the best routing of the cable and camera mounting looks easy enough thanks again

Under the headlinder a few inche from the middle towards the passenger side, and about 6-8" from the rear glass, there is a hole. youll see it when you take the 3rd brake light out.

This is a great modification. Even better is the advice and recommendations you received from other members to improve visibility and install. This is what makes this club priceless. Thanks for posting and taking the time and effort to share your project, but darn it for giving me another excuse to raid my bank account. :D

Okay that’s good information- is the camera mounted in the center of the brake light enclosure looking out the red part of the lense?

I totally agree with you Tom it’s always good to have another set of eyes looking at these projects and I always appreciate the input from the members here. I highly recommend installing these cameras no matter the brand you choose - I really like the park mode as well with this one there are so many set up options 😊

Okay I see some used this exit point from the cabin to run the wire through the 3rd brake light enclosure then stuck the camera outside just below the fixture or on the roof and the cord exited the 3rd brake light enclosure and was outside the enclosure the thin cord still allows the light to be put back in place and maintained a good seal with the camera mounted outside the brake light - is it possible you snap a picture of yours finished?

Okay I relocated the rear camera from the interior cabin to the outside above the 3rd brake light - this gives me an unobstructed view above my cargo basket instead of the tunnel vision view I had with the camera mounted inside. I want to thank everyone who provided suggestions and recommendations I’m very happy with the results.

Is that waterproof enough to have 60+ mph water blasted at it?

ps--great song playing! Bruce Springsteen recently covered it, but much as I love Bruce it just doesn't compare to the original.

Well I certainly hope so, the camera is approved to be mounted outside so we’ll have to see how it works out. The interior option didn’t work out since I have a cargo basket mounted on crossbars over the bed…

It was a lot easier than I expected I started at the dash cam I used the OEM mirror mount verses the straps - routed wires inside black shroud above mirror to access the headliner (it pops off easy) tucked the wires as I went towards driver‘s side A Pillar popped the trim covering it carefully then routed rear camera wire and power wire behind the air bag - worked my way down the trim on the side of the dash drop into the dash cavity there with the power cord being I used the OBD II Port for power verse going to the fuse box On the passenger side

i continued lifting the trim along the bottom of the door did a little crossover at the center door post then continued under the trim across the rear door then up the door trim until I got to the top of the back seat

i worked the trim openings up to the head liner across the back glass - removed the 3rd brake light unplugged the camera and snaked the plug and cord from the outside and reconnected it and tucked it into the headliner

good luck if you decide to go this route it was pretty easy honestly
