If you have the intelligent access and you lock you keys in with the pad, can't you just touch the door handle to gain access? If so the beach/hiking scenario would be no bueno.
My Bronco Sport would not open by touch unless the Fob was in my hand or pocket. If the key was inside (like in the center console) I had to use the keypad. The Lariat should be the same system. Otherwise anyone could touch the door handle and open it.

I lock my phone and my keys in the Maverick when I take the kayak out.

Today was a perfect example. I had to take my 2nd vehicle to work but my snow brush was inside Averic then wiped down my Subaru. Instead of carrying the key or pulling my phone out in snow. I walked up, tapped the code, locked and shut the door. No pocket fiddling.

Why do people get keyless entry on the door, if you can unlock your door with your phone via app?
With keyless entry (push button start) you do nothing except get in the car and press the start button. The driver door unlocks automatically considering your FOB is on your person.

Yes but subject is the keypad, no fob needed.

I don't have keypad keyless entry, but I can understand why people find it very handy to have.

Come to my area, drive down in a valley w/ no mobile service and lock your keys in the truck. You'll be wishing you had the keypad on the door.

I had the local locksmith cut a smaller, waterproof fobless chip key for me and stored it in a magnetic key hider on my XL, so I won't get locked out.

I do remember back in the day that a girl I knew had a key (when keys weren't chipped) hidden under her license plate. I guess nowadays, fobs make hiding more difficult, and non existent with proximity remotes.

1st Choice - Key Fob in pocket. Touch Door.
2nd Choice - Click Key Fob (Needed to yesterday during snow/sleet)
3rd Choice - Punch in code on door pad
Last Choice - Use my Ford App

I use my door pad all the time. You can personalize the code so even an old guy like me can remember. I set them to my daughters b day. Every vehicle. Even my 89 xr7 has it. It's faster than the app. I leave my keys locked in the truck all the time when I go boating, hiking MXing anytime I might loose them.

This feature could be locked behind a paywall in the not too distant future.

I suppose that Ford could potentially back track on offering the service for free in the future but in October of 2019 they announced that moving forward the service would be complimentary on all Ford vehicles.

Here is the official announcement by Ford but keep in mind because this was published several years ago some of the information maybe outdated.

Correct but it is not a guarantee that you will ALWAYS have an app. based feature. It would NOT surprise me to hear that they start offering it for a limited time after purchase and then start offering it under a subscription package of features. Just depends on the balance between the revenue Ford gets selling your data right now and how much they think you will pay.

The door key pad is the best feature ever offered. I’ve had one one every Ford starting with my 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe! USE IT EVERY SINGLE DAY!
