My big three reasons for ordering a Maverick were the price being only $20,000, having a ten year-old Colorado pushing 130,000 miles ( which is the oldest and highest mileage vehicle I have ever had), and spending so much on gas ( which is even higher since October). Since the Maverick is not a plug-in, just curious why anyone didn’t order the hybrid with near 50 mpg?
I’m in an area that really benefits from awd in the winter. I also needed the 4k

As others have posted. AWD trumps FWD in snow and other non-pavement conditions and 4k trumps 2k.

Because I realized I could get a better equipped Escape for a similar OTD price (after incentives, A-Plan, etc.) vs. a Maverick Lariat Hybrid with luxury package.

Then decided to stick with my Focus instead of taking advantage of the extremely high resale value.

Then someone ran a red light, totaling my Focus after Maverick Hybrid orders had closed for MY 2022.

So now I have the Escape on order, with a Bronco Sport for the interim...

And then gas prices shot up to nearly $4/gal ($3.899/gal most stations, the day after I paid $3.329/gal at Costco). BS only gets 25 mpg city, 28 mpg highway with the base 1.5L EcoBoost + 4x4.

Probably not the answer you're looking for, though. Escape Hybrid AWD is rated at 43 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, 40mpg combined, and I anticipate beating that, once it's finally built. :)
Just out of curiosity what does the Escape come with that the Maverick Lariat Lux doesn't come with? I tried building them and the Escape comes out more expensive, with what I can tell the same stuff. I could have missed something though.

Awd is a must where I live. Also want the fx4 features and trailer brake on the 4k

AWD is a good feature to have when you live in the mountains. Drove out in the snow today and it handles great in those conditions.

I needed something to replace my 2001 Ranger and still pull my camper. Unfortunately I did have a hybrid ordered at first. But found out my camper was a little to heavy for the hybrid.

No AWD and I'd rather have it when I'm offroad.

I've also used the skid plate three times and the tow hooks twice.

I haul my dirt bikes and often times camping gear. I wanted the ability to pull a popup down the road with it. Also nothing Ohio so id like the awd for when the weather turns bad.

I had the hybrid on order until my dealer called and offered an EB AWD that fell through due to bad credit and I didn’t want to wait any longer.

AWD, independent rear suspension, 250hp. Don’t drive during the work week. And I didn’t have to wait for it.

AWD and towing. Also the additional power and better suspension you get with the AWD package. Also the shorter wait (in theory! Still waiting). The EB AWD still gets better mileage than the vehicle it is replacing ('07 Odyssey), and our other "on order" car is an electric (VW id.4), and that one will probably end up getting driven more than the Mav once we have both.

I would have ordered hybrid if it would tow over 2000 pounds. But since it doesn’t…..

AWD.. and batteries are only good for so many recharges.. then you will need to replace them. the amount of pollution created to mine the cobalt and lithium and the disposal of the battery pack is way worse that an ICE.

Some of us look for appliances from A to B and others look for the thrill of the ride.
All Mavericks - any trims, any engines - are appliances. Along with about 99% of every other car in this price range.

You guys pushing this battery narrative don't have any real idea what you're talking about. Hybrids like the Maverick never let the battery fully charge or fully deplete, and that is a happy life for a lithium ion battery. The battery pack in the Maverick will almost certainly outlast the turbo in the Ecoboost. Neither will be cheap to to replace, but neither should be any real concern for a long, long time.

Again, I know this thread is about personal preference and truly - to each their own. But I just like for the facts to be out there.
