Just curious the mentality and reasoning of these mark ups and who is actually paying them. I understand and totally aware of dealers asking several grand over MSRP on " abandoned " orders...

But seeing so many posts of folks that sold their trucks to carmax or carvana or just back to the Ford dealer etc... For 5-10 grand over MSRP in many cases, which means the buying dealer is going to mark it up additionally another few grand.... It just puzzles me, who is wanting one of these trucks that bad that they would pay what could be well over 10 grand over MSRP on one of these.

I feel like I have wanted one myself pretty bad, but I also really don't want one at a price point any higher than MSRP. I have multiple orders pending, a XLT trim level and a Lariat trim level... One is a little under 30 grand, the other is close to 35 grand. I don't see these trucks being worth any more than that. I understand that a new F150 or even Ranger is a ton more, but to me they are far more substantial vehicles ( and over priced at that ). But I can't wrap my head around paying over 30 grand for a used XL or over 40 grand for a used XLT. Even paying those prices for new ones someone else backed out on, I start to think of what other vehicles I could purchase for that same sum of money and it is a LONG list of far better vehicles.

But clearly there is a market for Mavericks at 5-10 grand over MSRP or else we wouldn't be seeing these high offers being given...

Following auctions on Cars and bids, seems like vehicles like the Riven trucks and lightnings, broncos etc... The market has softened and these trucks are rarely selling for over MSRP now. Heck, even the last few Mavericks sold there barely went for over MSRP.

IDK.... lot's of thoughts go through my head when I think of all this. I don't know what to think. I mean, are these trucks that special that people really think they are still a good buy at WAY over MSRP? Or is this just a sign of American excess, where some folks just simply want one bad enough that they will pay whatever they have to pay to get one? Or is it something else?

Folks can spend their money anyway they choose, but I would not pay a penny over MSRP for this vehicle or any vehicle for that matter.

I'm 71 years old and MSRP has always been the target for me. Some years ago, you could still buy for less than MSRP. It's a free world, but I'm not going to participate in the $5,000 to $10,000 over! No wonder inflation is out of control.

Easy credit + inflated trade equity
That EZ credit comes with a highly inflated interest rate. But people don't care about having a $1,000+ car payment anymore.

I agree..... and yet, compared to the cost of a Ridgeline, we are back to "What the buyer is willing to pay". I am pretty "thrifty" and never ever bought a new vehicle until now. A hybrid truck essentially the same size as my Tacoma but it gets 45mpg and is the cheapest vehicle in the country? Where do I sign? So I signed. Even waiting 19 months and even paying $27K for the XLT (just to get cruise control) I am still glad I did. The bed is 6" shorted than the Taco but the inside is roomier and it's easier to get in and out of. Like you, I would not pay more than MSRP either (even it the dealer hoped I might). If you have been living under a rock for two years and suddenly realize there is a sensibly-sized truck that gets 45mpg and price is no object.... Go figure.

I see Carvana selling these used suckers for $35K plus and it's tempting.

Ford Maverick Who here is actually paying 5-10 grand over MSRP for these trucks... And Why????? CarvanaM

The “why” is easy…they want it real bad and can afford it. It’s like asking a woman why she’d want a $300-$500 designer pocketbook. I wouldn’t pay 3-5K over MSRP, even though I want one and can afford it...it’s a matter of practicality and principle. I’ll wait for my base XL to be built.

It took some doing when my son picked up his 2022 Mav XLT FX4 AWD last year. But we finally got the dealer down to MSRP. When I ordered our 2023 last Sept the contract with our dealer states MSRP at time of delivery. Now hoping this may get rolled over to a 2024. Just need them to keep the ability to flat tow with the hybrid. The last truck I bought was at invoice price less rebates. So I know have to choke and gag at being asked to pay MSRP

From what I have learned, since getting my Mav. The average vehicle is +$48,000.
I have only taken a loan out once. My first Ranger 1985, $6450.00 - $1500 trade in. = $5000. Which even at my 1986 pay scale + a little savings, I paid off in four months.
And have paid cash for everyone since.
I see it as folks see $30,000s as a deal...

Like others have said - supply and demand. I wanted one so badly, I paid $2,500 over for XLT EB, drove it 5 months and sold it to a Ford dealer for $5K over just before my Lariat Hybrid came in. My wife wanted a hybrid so bad, I flew all the way to Detroit and paid $2K over for an XLT Hybrid (which was a bargain) and just got an offer Saturday for $6K over (after driving it for 4 months) and will sell it this week because her Lariat Hybrid is being built in three weeks. I just looked at it as a reduction in MSRP on both Lariats, bringing them down from $35K loaded to $32K for mine and $31K for hers. I know some will frown on selling one for a profit, but they will sell their house for a profit, so what is the difference. It is called a free market economy and a free country, unlike some places in the world where you could not even buy anything unless you were in a certain social class.

I can understand someone paying 5 grand over for a maverick if they really want it. If you want to see something that really blows your mind, just know there are people paying 600-800 grand for 30 year old 2,000 sq ft shithole homes in Salt Lake City. Guess some people really like being around homeless junkies and construction cones.

I wouldn't. But you could probably justify it if you think msrp will keep increasing. For ex, my22 xl was 20k. Add on 5k. You're only 2.5k above my23 and probably 0k above my24.
