Some will get into the bed but the bed has drain holes in multiple places. To me its not a big deal. Keeps stuff mostly dry. I never expected it to be water tight.

Is this factory setup or your awesome homegrown solution? That's the factory roll-up tonneau I think, right? Pretty neat idea - how effective is it?

That's my self-installed BakFlip Mx4 tri-fold. Can't tell you how well my drain works, as there is occasionally some water under the cover.

Most hard tonneau covers have drain tubes that most use a OEM grommet in the bed for the drain tubes to go through and then the water drains just above the rear wheel wells.

Usually there's two to four holes drilled in the rails the cover sits on to allow intruding water to run in that channel and drain out the rear tubes close to the cab.

I have a hard rollup cover, it is actually more watertight than I expected. Due to the fact that there is no gap between the bed and cab, and the front lip is a bit lower than the side rails it will probably leak at the front. My leakage has been limited to the corners though, and the water just drains away. I do have a bed rug, but the water goes right through it and is not absorbed.

My Dealer installed Ford branded Tonneau cover has no drain pipes/tubes. Personally I can't see how two super tiny tubes can drain a lot of water, given their location.

I have some vague memory of drain tubes being required for spray in bed liners.

I like that. I'll try and rig that for my tri-fold.
I installed a hard trifold on my sons XL and I cut little small X’s in the grommet just above those in this pic. Before I installed the cover I used silicone to fill to body seams next to window and two channels where the two pieces of bed cap came together. I waited a few days and trimmed silicone flush with razor blade then I installed cover so there was about 3/4” gap between back window and cover. He’s driven through a monsoon and had a tiny bit of water at the tailgate.
