Hey guys! The video is in French so here's a resume.

They tested the difference between 17" vs 19" wheels with an AWD XLT Maverick Hybrid (17") and an AWD Lariat Maverick Hybrid (19").
If you don't understand French, here's a breakdown of the video:

Both vehicles are Maverick Hybrid AWD
Same type of tires: Nokian Tyres Outpost APT
TestsXLT 17"Lariat 19"
Tire size17"19"
Tire weight52.69lbs (23.9kg)57.32lbs (26.5kg)
0 to 100km7.5 sec7.7 sec
SlalomMore forgiving on rougher roadsBetter contact feeling to the road
Direction feels more precise
100 to 0 km144' (44.9m)144' (44.9m)
Fuel consumption after 105 km5.9l/100km5.8l/100km
Tire $$$247$/EA CAD322$/EA CAD

All in all, not much difference between 17" and 19" other than the look that 19" gives to the vehicle and the price difference.

Cheers

Thanks! I've been considering those Nokian Outpost APT's as the replacement for my Wildpeak's when they need replacing.

I could have told you that there is no difference whatsoever between the two in every day driving. I traded my 17s for the 19s (because unpopular opinion, they look better and these trucks are not really off road vehicles especially the FWD's) and they feel exactly the same and fuel consumption is the same as well.

"More forgiving on rougher roads". That's all I need to hear continue with 17", and nothing bigger. Roads are only getting worse it seems, and the extra tire suspension takes stress off the other suspension components. Not a huge difference but enough for me to never consider 18-19".

My 24 has 18’s I’m right in the middle.
Likely going to Falken Rubitrek’s.

My stock Michelins are 225/60R 18
I’ll go up just a tad to 235/60R 18
Only a half inch wider and a half inch taller I think.

I got the Rubitrek’s on my 2004 Escape.
No loss of mpg’s on that one.
Very quiet, great in the rain, 3 peak snow rated. Wonderful stead fast tracking even on shitty pavement.

Do they address the fact that Ford specs the 19" tire as an extra load (XL) versus standard load (SL) for the 17"....

I will give my opinion over the winter months as the first week of Nov is when I will be putting my 17" snow tires (Dunlop Winter-Maxx SJ8's made by Sumitomo) mounted on steelies and pulling the Goodyear Territory HT's off for a long winter nap in the shed.

Did they swap the wheel/tire combo between the trucks and retest?

One trip for mpg comparison?

Meh, not the best "test".

17s seem to perform as good as 19", accelerate faster, will save gas in town (weight savings) AND cost cheaper. IMO look better too.

One of the first changes I made on my 2022 XLT (after adding hood struts), was installing 19" Bronco Sport wheels/tires. OK, just for looks, but after 4 years (47,000 miles) they still look good. Easy to sell original wheels to an XL owner too.
Mavericks are just fun to customize for each owner.

I run with 255/50R20 Summit Trail Climber SUV² in the warmer months. For winter driving I have 235/75R17 Hankook Dynapro AT2. I'll be installing the 17's in a couple of weeks.

I still had to translate. I had to translate everything from metric to US numbers.. I can roughly translate kilometers to miles. But I’m totally lost in translating liters per kilometer to miles per gallon. Too many changes.😂
