What have y’all towed?

In 24,000 miles I finally need to move something over 4,000lbs so I’m calling in a favor to tow my 6,500lb tractor.

In that time I’ve saved about $3,200 in gas over the cost of an F150, plus about $1,600 less in insurance, and the truck costs about $14,00 less than an F150.

Didn't think to take pictures but I laid some 6ft by 8ft wood fence panels in Mav last week! (yes they were sticking out the side quite a lot)..

Strapped down of course.

Keep this just between me and you, I don’t want my brothers laughing at me; but I finally pushed the Flex Bed too far today

It’s 1,717 lbs of scaffold and I knew the limit is 1,500. I kept bouncing on the bed rail to see how much suspension travel I had left while they added sticks. When it finally felt like I was almost on the bump stops I shut them down.

I moved all the 4’ bars, jacks, etc., into the passenger seat and back seat, so I’m confident the bed has less than 1,500lbs in it.

I screwed up cause I used the mid raised position of the tailgate instead of laying it flat. I tend to use it with long loads to shift the center of gravity forward.
I’m regretting that now.

I was even careful to push the eye of the bed wire cable all the way onto the peg so it wouldn’t have a lever arm under tension.

But while I was driving the torque must have gotten to it and after it started bending backwards, the eyes slid to the end of the pegs and maxed out the torque on the body

The pegs for the “flat”tailgate position don’t stick out and wouldn’t have bent the bedsides.

After unloading the tailgate wouldn’t close because the latch pegs were bent out of shape.

I got a cheater bar and said a prayer that the aluminum would not tear when bent back the other way.

I didn’t go far beyond the original position like I would have stretched steel body panels but it turned out to be enough for the tailgate to latch shut again. thank you Lord!

Putting the FLEX in Flex bed for sure. Not sure it will flex back as easy though. Everything has it's limit, it just takes someone willing to test it to find out what it is. Thanks for the sacrifice.

Ok this is the best and craziest thread I've read on hauling yet. I read the text first, and I was like 32' ladder ok, yeah, hay bales, ok yeah, etc. Was not expecting to see the extension ladders sticking out of the bed of the truck or the hay bales on a hitch carrier though! Absolute madlad!!! 10/10 post!

5HP submersible pump and 40’x4” sch 80 pipe on the aluminum trailer. Can barely tell it’s behind me.

I carry a harbor, freight tools, bed extender for long loads. It packs nicely in the bed sandwiched between the truck box and the tailgate as shown in the picture. It works perfectly with the Home Depot Husky box designed for Toyota Tacoma pick ups to squeeze in the space above the wheel well. I highly recommended if you haul long items like this pair of 20 foot long joints of pipe.

Had to check out the 28ish foot enclosed trailer weight. Can’t tow it anymore. It tipped the scale at 5,300lbs.
It felt nice and steady down the road and braking wasn’t noticeably worse than 4,000lb tows.
So this week I went and bought an 18’ enclosed trailer that’s 18’ long and only 2,800lbs.
